Putting aside the "should marijuana be legal and for what reasons" debate, this girl had no right doing that to her mother. There are certain instances where you don't follow the law to a "t". Especially when the law is not completely justified and muddled in it's meaning. Did the girl think about her mother's back pain, or how it would affect her chances for future employment if she is convicted. But wait, since she might be too overwhelmed with pain to work, she might not have to worry about the a drug conviction getting in the way of her finding employment. Her self-righteous daughter had better learn that we live in the world we live in, and what goes around comes around.

The War on Marijuana has be going on now for 70 years. More people have smoked marijuana today, by percentage, than in 1937. Presently the usage of marijuana is about the same as cigarettes among teenagers. Is that called success? The only thing wasted is tax money. We are paying far more taxes today because the prohibition of marijuana. 70 years of wasted money on enforcement, judicial, and prison systems. A failure from start to finish, we've spent a lot of money going backwards. Also we lost all the tax monies by not taxing it. Talk about waste in government. The tax monies would be better spent on education and PR campaigns. It is well known that Al Capone was a big supporter of the prohibition of alcohol. Why? There's a lot more profit to made in the untaxed market. There's so much profit that Capone bribed numerous politicians and law enforcement officials. The strategy right now is to unsure that marijuana is not taxed or sales regulated. Presently the drug cartels are controlling the production and sale of marijuana, not our government. Do you think a drug dealer going to ask a kid for ID? There is a drug war happening south of the border which is undermining the Mexican government. Half the revenue of the drug cartels come from the production and sale of marijuana. By legalizing marijuana would effectively remove 50 percent of the cartels monies. And any business, legal or illegal, who loses half their revenue faces a great chance of complete collapse. Times are tough, the economic crisis today is compared to that of the Great Depression, and what help pay for the New Deal that helped pull the country out of that crisis, the end of prohibition of alcohol. Let us not forget that the hemp plant (marijuana) has many viable commercial and industrial uses (energy, material, medical, etc). Did you know that our founding fathers George Washington and Thomas Jefferson grew hemp, and that the Declaration of Independence is written on hemp paper? Finally, the last three Presidents of the United States of America have smoked marijuana at one time. It's now the time to end the prohibition of marijuana.

Who is this woman hurting by growing and using this natural herb to ease her pain?? It's her body and her business. I smoked it to relieve nausea and pain after cancer surgery many years ago and it was very effective. Of course she must be responsible and not drive, etc. when using, as I am sure she realizes, but the same applies to alcohol and presribed narcotics. And yes, I know it is illegal (the reason I don't use it for my ongoing severe pain) but it shouldn't be. I think it is ridulous that alcohol, which is ultimately so much more harmful, is legal yet marajuana is not.

about a head on collision due to smokeing canabis?

That little brat should be tossed out of her mothers house & made to find her OWN way in life! How do you do something like that to your own mother??? Its not like she had multiple plants & was distributing! It doesnt sound like the mother put her kids in a dangerous situation... it sounds to me like the daughter was mad at mom for some reason or other & this is how she got even.

no this girl is really pathetic..at 19 years old you would hope that just like she would expect her mother to respect her choice that she should do the same...the only time a child should approach their parents about weed smoking (completely different than any other drug) is if their parent is failing to pay the bills or take care of the house, etc..why call the cops? talk to your mom or destroy the plants if you disapprove...jeeez...this girl probably is a loser btw

I'm really unsurprised by the amount of completely ignorant, uneducated comments on this article. Eight year olds shouldn't smoke. Much like alcohol and cigarettes, it should be taxed and regulated. That way kids have a harder time obtaining it, and don't have to worry about finding the chemicals and human feces. Even though those things are very rarely found in cannabis. Would you feed an 8 year old Tylenol or Aspirin? Of course not, those medicines are for adults.

Yes, there is a big difference between medical and street pot, medical marijuana is STRONGER! And where did you get the idea that pot growers would spend money putting chemicals in your pot? And as far as human feces, guess what, the FDA found it in lettuce, peanuts, etc! Are we going to make them illegal since they are full of crap??? So you want me to take an Advil, which will destroy my kidneys? Do you work for a pharmaceutical company? It sure sounds like it! I went to a drug awareness talk given by our former Sheriff. He said, Pot does not lead to stronger more addictive drugs, it is the association with the criminal element that leads to the other drugs! It is considered a stepping stone drug! Decriminalize pot and you take away the stepping stone! But the liquor industry, pharmaceutical industry, and law enforcement agencies are making WAY TOO MUCH MONEY to ever leagalize or decriminalize it! Marijuana is a Plant put on this Earth by God! It never leaves it's natural inception from beginning to end! You grow it, you pick it, you dry it, you smoke it! That is from God! God does not make junk!
