Boy, 12, Out-Drives Tiger Woods
Filed under: In The News, Weird But True, Amazing Kids
It doesn't matter if you're the fastest gun or the greatest brain surgeon. Someday, some kid is going to come along and show you up.
That day came for golf legend Tiger Woods on Oct. 4. He was out-driven by a 12-year-old kid.
A video from NBC Philadelphia tells the tale. Woods was in North Carolina to open a new golf course and hit a few tee-shots down the fairway. Two of them landed in the trees. Then he asked if anyone in the crowd thought they could do better.
Mark Benevento Jr. of New Jersey stepped forward. The pre-teen shot the ball 200 yards, right down the middle. Woods was stunned. "Do that again," he said. "We've got to see that again."
So the lad did it again.
"I was surprised because I thought I was going to top it or something," the middle schooler told the NBC affiliate. "[Woods] was clapping. He was really surprised that I could actually hit it."
More than surprised, he was duly impressed. "Well done, bud. Well done," he told Mark. "I'm proud of you."
Mark's father, Mark Benevento Sr., owns the Great Bay Country Club in Somers Point, N.J. He told NBC his son usually shoots in the high 70s. The father and son traveled to North Carolina to hear Woods speak at the first-ever Tiger Woods-designed golf course, still under development at The Cliffs at High Carolina.
"He [Woods] called me from a crowd of, like, 100 people," Mark told NBC. "I wasn't really nervous, but I got nervous when I stepped up."
You couldn't tell from his performance.

Why can't you morons just be happy for this kid and LET IT GOOOOOOO. To think some of you hold jobs and raise kids is scary in itself. Good Grief!!

If it looks like a duck, smells like a duck and by god if walks like a duck, then it's a dam stinky duck! End of story, good night and put the little Tiger wannabe to bed!

Until he came along it was the sport of 40 plus men and it was sought afetr by 30 plus men and some women if at all. Tiger brought about glamour and gave the younger generation the ambition to hone their skills and so it is only apt that this 12 year old should follow in Tiger's long set footsteps good for him! On www.truuconfessions.com many have spoken of this in great length!

Misdleading headline, but a great article about this kid and Tiger.

I remember years ago in Vegas when his roomate from Stanford was playing a qualifying round for a spot on the PGA. Tiger not only showed up to support his friend, Tiger showed up on the 3rd or 4th hole to try and keep the circus to a minimum, but he took over the cady responsibilities for his friend. So, here's Tiger, the #1 player in the world, schlepping his friends bag. when word got back to the clubhouse "Tigers out on the course" no one believed it. Unfortunately for his friend by the time he finished a big crowd was there with the news media. Tigers roommate did not qualify ...

I didn't see anyone else step out to accept Tigers challenge. It wasn't how far he hit the ball, its that he he shoot where Tiger didn't.

And then there is no email link to contact him directly to give him the verbal dope slap he needs. (I guess he'd be swamped.) I will avoid Tom Henderson's writings in the future.

No mic during the swing, the shirts are of 2 different colors and he was only mic'd up for the interview. Open mouth and insert foot, think before you speak. If you go by the rules of golf, if you know the rules, he did out drive Tiger of both of his drives landed in the fairway and Tigers ended up in the trees. Learn the game and then and only then spew your unfounded comments.

Woods has destroyed a beautiful mountain by ripping down all the trees and replacing them with a golf course. There are enough golf courses, there are not enough old growth forests. STOP THE CLIFFS!
