Celeb Moms Sounds Off on Karl Lagerfeld's Recent 'Fat Mum' Comments
Filed under: Celeb Parents, In The News
Fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld has never been known for his tact. But he completely crossed the line when he recently moved from bashing healthy models, like Heidi Klum, to insulting real, everyday women - especially mothers.
"No one wants to see curvy women," said Lagerfeld in response to German magazine Brigitte's decision to use real women instead of models in its pages starting with the Jan. 2 issue. "These are fat mummies sitting with their bags of crisps in front of the television, saying that thin models are ugly." This is about "dreams and illusions, and no one wants to see round women," he said in an interview with Focus magazine.
Of course, as the creative director of Chanel, Lagerfeld, 71, is responsible for perpetuating the size 0 model stereotype in his Paris fashion shows. "Runway models are thinner than ever, and that's because it's what's in demand by the designers," Harold Mindel, director of NYC's Click Model Management, told Life & Style. Ideally, runway models are 5-foot-10 or 5-foot-11 and wear size 0 to 2, a nearly impossible standard. "Designers, fashion photographers and casting agents have always wanted a thin body to show the silhouette of clothes," said Mindel.

I stood in line one time at a movie theatre and there was this young hispanci hoochi momma chick wearing the style of the short wasted jeans with the short cropped T-shirt and her blobs of fat were sticking out and rolling out over the top of the jeans and T-Shirt.....I thought to myself she must not be intelligent because any one with any sort of intelligent would realize they looked terribile in that outfit like an ugly blob of fat. I am not skinny any more like I was when I was a teen ager and into my twenties - but I am intelligent enough to NOT wear clothes that have my fat rolling out and over all over the place.

The overwhelming majority can't afford designers anyway, so a boycott won't work. But we can support the celebrities who object to this! And, we can BUY KNOCK-OFFS! That really pisses off these pissy designers.**** Women love that long-lean masculine look. So do gay men. But we need to realize that's not normal for us to aspire to. ****When shopping I think about what I've seen on women of similar build to mine that looks good. I don't even look at fashion mags.
