Miley Cyrus' 9-Year-old Little Sis Gets Halloween All Wrong

While I am disappointed in Billy Ray's choice to allow his daughter to go out dressed like this knowing she owuld most likely be photographed by the media, I can't say that I am shocked to see a nine year old dressed like this for Halloween. As a former grade school teacher and a mother of two, I have seen far too many young girls dressed in sexy diva, vampire and witch costumes over the years. Yes, it is a disturbing trend, but far more disturbing is that this kind of attire is no longer saved for dress up and Halloween. Just spend a week around any American public school or mall and you will see huge numbers of girl under the age of 13 dressed like this for every day things like going to school and shopping. I remember battling with my mother to be allowed to wear eyeshadow and blush in junior high and now I see 7, 8 and 9 year olds wearing mascara and bright red lipstick every day.
Yes, a less sexualized costume would be more appropriate for the little Cyrus girl, but at least it was only a Halloween costume. The ones who should really be slapped are the parents who would allow similar attire on November 1st when they head to church (yes, I have seen that, too).

Her older sister is setting a really bad example for her and clothing mainly. Miley in the Party in the U.S.A video looked like a hooker while dancing on the pole and wow... the make-up is just a bad touch.

Here is my thought: I think that it must be very hard for her to live in the shadow of her big sister! I think that is a normal response to that feeling of "being ignored". What she needs is some possitive attention from daddy!

I wouldn't want my daughter dressing like that. And if your a Christian then you shouln't be allowing your kids to participate in Halloween activities anyway! I don't agree with churches either they are still celebrating it know matter what they call it. People need to wake up!!!!

Maybe you are rather unintelligent and therefore, unaware about the meaning of the word "costume" and "party"- this means, for all your morons out there, that people dress up and LOOK LIKE SOMEONE ELSE.

Her breasts aren't showing. Her ass isn't showing. Her cooch isn't showing. There's some thigh, but a lot less than you'd see in a bathing suit. It's a little girl in a Halloween costume with Halloween makeup, having fun playing dress-up and pretending to be someone else.

This just makes me wonder what is wrong with society today that this type of thing can be considered "normal and appropriate" by so many. Also, celeb kids tend to set the standard in clothing trends (I'm 16, I should know), so that fact that she is dressing up like this makes other kids think it is the "cool" thing to do.

The Costume does look a little too old, but for goodness sake it's HALLOWEEN people. get over its not like she wears this every day she will wear it once and then probably wont wear it again. The trouble is that pedophiles see this as sexual,and when you allow your NINE year old to dress like this,then you are inviting trouble. it's a sad commentary on the world today,but in the internet age,some pervert will use this photo for his own purposes. It is our number one job as parents to protect our children,and,looking at this photo,this girl's parents are just issuing an open invitation to all the perverts out there,and there are millions! So,for me,the debate is not about whether or not the costume is appropriate for a nine year-old. It is about the fact that I would not put my child in the position of attracting undue deviant attention.

I could not agree more with Karen, she took the words right out of my brain. I do not see children as sexual objects, and you may not either, Elizabeth, but there are plenty of perverted individuals who do. I have a young daughter and would not let her out in public (in front of the press, no less!) dressed like a call girl. Why would a caring parent want certain people to have sexual thoughts about their child? I guarantee you there are people who see this photo and have that reaction. Of course, I don't expect my children to support me financially. I guess that's the difference between the marketing your children vs. protecting and nurturing your children. I'm comfortable with my decision.
