Barbie Palm Beach Sugar Daddy Ken is a Real Doll

The Internet is all abuzz with news of the Barbie Palm Beach Sugar Daddy Ken Doll. Retailer Entertainment Earth is taking preorders for the doll, scheduled for release in April 2010.
Indeed.
A word of explanation -- in this case, the phrase Sugar Daddy does not refer to the candy bar. Urban Dictionary describes the term thusly: "A man (usually older and well-off) who financially supports a younger woman (or man) in exchange for sex and companionship.
Palm Beach Sugar Daddy Ken won't be alone in Florida with his little white dog (readers of the site Topless Robot think the pooch should be named "Precious"). The doll is part of a series called Barbie Palm Beach, which includes the Barbie Palm Beach Swimsuit Doll, the Barbie Palm Beach Caftan Doll and the Barbie Palm Beach Coral Doll, which is the most expensive offering at $174.99. The least expensive of the line, the $14.32 Barbie Beach Party Pool Playset, is sold out at the moment. We truly hope it will be in stock soon. Otherwise where will Palm Beach Sugar Daddy Ken dunk his pedicure whilst sipping his third Sex on the Beach?
When we first heard about the spanking new Ken, we thought it was a PhotoShopped hoax. Turns out, this Mattel doll is the real deal.
"It's a legitimate concept that leaked out," admitted Michelle Chidoni, Mattel spokesperson.
"We have a group called the Barbie Collector Group, targeted toward the adult, fashion-minded consumer," she told ParentDish, adding that the group is some eight million strong. "The collector community has a message board and this doll concept leaked onto the message board."
"We've explored this character, but it's not finalized," she added. "The concepts that we're talking about now are for 2010-2011. This was a character we explored and that's the long and short of it. But these aren't dolls you'll see at Toys R Us."
This isn't the first time Mattel came up with a controversial Barbie. Last year's Tippi Hedren Barbie, from her role in Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds, had three ravens attacking her ensemble, much to some collectors' dismay.
Now that we know about the adult collection, we have a few suggestions of our own: Octo-Barbie, Jon Ken/Kate Barbie, Lady Gaga Barbie and our fave, Britney Barbie who sings Womanizer to K-Fed Ken.

I hope they think the massive number of loyal customers they are loosing over all their silly nonsense is worth the few that think this kind of thing is amusing or cute.

its always older women who complain about a changing society this is not 40 years ago get with the times as we evolve things change nothing stays the same if a younger women over 18 wants to be with an older man thats her business she is an adult and can be with and do with any man she wants to be with be intimate with him if she likes i am 39 and been with women 18 19 up to 26 thats what me and millions of other men like so we don't need other people tryin to ride the moral compass i say to each his own more men prefer younger women and younger women prefer older men thats how its always been thats how it will always be.

Well guess what people? It is official that this doll has been canceled and will not be produced. So stop your whining to those that have done so and move on with your narrow minded lives. Seriously.

LET HE WHO IS WITHOUT SIN CAST THE FIRST STONE!!!!You filthy bunch of hypocrites. You hide behind the lord and your own self rightousness. You allow your children to watch the trash on Disney and Nickelodeon, shows that encourage young children to participate in panty raids and debauchery (Spongebob Squarepants) and other shows that teach young girls to dress like adults,go to adult parties and then some poor slob is finding himself on Megan's List, while you decry a doll that is not marketed to your children. The truth of the matter is that you and the idiot authors of this ridiculous article always need someone to blame You mouth off without knowing what in heaven's name you're talking about.Like that lunatic woman in the movie The Mist.Mattel has always marketed the dolls in this collection specifically to adult doll collectors, not children. What you're reacting to is a cheap form of publicity for these new dolls. And to those of you throwing Christianity around at will,SHAME ON YOU. And unfortunately for us Christians in this country,we are now in the minority. And for those of you who believe Mattel ever had any goodness forget it.They never had any to begin with,it was always about the money. They've been brainwashing our society into believing that white children should be ashamed of thier light skin (Almost every Caucasian doll and action figure in the children's playline that Mattel has made since the late 1970's, has had a tan) and black children to be unhappy with their hair and other features. Most of the African American dolls made before 1990 didn't even resemble African Americans.Even the African American dolls in The American Girls collection are from the same molds as the Caucasian dolls. Mattel was never wholesome.Find something else to go on a witch hunt about.

Now THIS is what is SICK...this response. Reading this post makes me completely sick to my stomach. How could you...do you even have an ounce of humanity in you? Apparently not.
"HOLY CRAP (and I do mean CRAP)!!!! I was sincerely hoping this was a joke. I can't believe it's not. I am disgusted, offended, and sickened by this effeminate "Ken" (or should I say "Barbie"?). The other day, some designer debuted her LOVELY versions of new Barbie dolls. Now THOSE were dolls I would buy for my daughters! And those were not being sold! Yet they intend to sell THIS garbage? I am going to voice a strong complaint to each and every store I see this horrible creature in--but I am hoping Mattel gets the message and pulls the plug before this horror hits store shelves. They can say all they want about marketing it to adults, but that's just another load of crap. Sick. Just sick."
P.S.: NO...YOU are the one who is sick and full of crap. Everything you have called this doll is just what you are yourself.

First of All,
This Was a Sneek Peek released by Mattel to the members of the Barbie Fan Club - A Ken doll to be produced for the 2010 Silkstone Line which IS an ADULT COLLECTOR Line. It is NOT intended for Children to play with it was to be produced for the Adult Collector...
I would HOPE that No Parent would go out and spend $80-$100 on a Ken or a Barbie doll to let their child open it up and play with it.
These are intended for the adult collector only. That is why there is a Childrens Playline Barbie and Ken dolls produced.
Why can't it be clear that this doll is for adult collectors and parents need to do their job and teach and guide their children. When did that become the responsibilty of everyone else instead of parents??!!
I really hate to think that parents and bloggers control the product that I buy from barbie collectibles. I really hate that they can control what other adults can purchase. Control your Children, Not me!!
And the sad thing about this is now people are gonna think they have the power to control what Mattel puts out in the future. If they don't like a particular doll for whatever reason they can just band together and protest and have the doll cancelled, because Mattel obviously doesn't have a backbone.

Seriously, You nay-sayers need to chill and get a REAL life...
ITS A DOLL!!!
AND AN ADULT COLLECTOR DOLL!
Geez...like you all don't have 'goodie-drawers' with Gosh knows what in them - for ALL your kids to see and be scarred for life.
Do you seriously think a collector doll called Palm Beach Ken (NOT Sugar Daddy Ken since it was changed) is going to make your kids go out and get jobs as pole dancers and gigolos!?!?
Get off your fat duffs and get them outside and away from the TV and computer games if youre worried about their mental development!
Ever hear of 'picking and choosing your battles' ???
yeesh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You said a MOUTHFUL!!!
I wish these people (that are soooooooooooooooo perfect) would for once take a peek in the mirror.
I am positive the flaws they find in a doll manufacturer and it's products doesn't even come close to their own flawed lives/parenting skills.
Bravo and more power to US!

Sugar Daddy Ken? guess Skipper is gonna be the "young girl". this is sad, what happen to normal Malibu Beach Barbie and Barbie horse riding? Gymnastic Barbie that came out in the 90s that could bend like a real person was the envy of my friends, we all wanted her. well, at least Barbie isn't as bad as the Bratz dolls *mumbles little skanks*
