Sarah Palin: Levi Welcome at Thanksgiving Table; Johnston Declines
Filed under: Holidays, Celeb Kids, Celeb Parents, In The News
In her new book, Sarah Palin doesn't address the family drama with Levi Johnston, but said on 'Oprah' that she would welcome him to a turkey dinner. Credit: Amazon
Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin told Oprah that she is willing to bury the hatchet with Levi Johnston, baby-daddy to her first grandchild, and says that he is welcome at her Thanksgiving table.
Palin told Oprah that she's trying to move past the negative and concentrate on life without drama. Johnston, she says, is part of the family and she's willing to "bring him into the fold" and under her wing.
"And he needs that, too, Oprah, I think he needs to know that he is loved and he has the most beautiful child and this can all work out for good," she says in the interview, which is scheduled to run Nov. 16. "It really can."
But it doesn't look like he'll be taking a bite of her sweet potato pie anytime soon, according to Gawker. In an interview he did today with Playgirl, Johnston says of the former vice-presidential candidate's invitation, "You could tell by her laugh she was full of it." So much for that reunion.
The Palin family generates reams of tabloid coverage, and Johnston is among the principal players. From his mother's arrest for drug dealing to the infamous "Vanity Fair" interview wherein he did his best to further tarnish the already endangered reputation of the former vice presidential candidate, Johnston has done a lot to engender Palin's wrath.
Her willingness to forgive and forget got us thinking: What is it about the holidays that makes us open our hearts? The cynic in us wonders if all the warm fuzzies are just an effort to divert attention from the more sordid aspects of the Palin clan's family history, but the holidays do offer plenty of reasons to reflect on family and what it really means.
Susan Stiffelman, Califorina-based family and marriage therapist and ParentDish's Advice Mama, said that the costs of alienation must be weighed against the benefit of keeping our distance from family members who may upset us.
"Regardless of the who-did-what-when-and-why, in the end, no one wins when families splinter and disconnect," she says. "The holidays offer all of us a chance to weigh the benefit of maintaining our righteous position versus the cost, and inspiring us to -- hopefully -- discover that reconciliation and forgiveness offer us a chance to wrap up the year with more love, connection and more peace of mind."
Johnston and Palin are odd bedfellows indeed, but they are forever linked through DNA in the form of Palin's grandson, Tripp. Perhaps this unusual grandmother recognizes that fact.
We do, however, wonder what Bristol Palin had to say to her mother behind closed doors about the impromptu invitation.

Well, I will tell you: One Big A-s Mistake America. Cant't wait for 2010. I sure HOPE the voters get rid of the clowns in congress who voted for the Helath Reform and Cap and Tax bills. that will be CHANGE I will like.

What about all the corrupt politicians on Capitol Hill? Apparantly they are smarter then you because they fleece this country dry. They have the best of health care paid by us but deem it's not good enough for us. Talk about dumb ... Barney Frank, Joe Biden, Chris Dodd and Nancy Pelosi. I would rather have Sarah Palin any day!

The Palin family is simply a normal family, with growing pains, personality conflicts, etc. The difference is, Ms. Palin's run for Vice President has shone the bright lights of public scrutiny on her family, whereas we are still in the darkest obscurity.......and no one cares if Aunt Tilly and Uncle Bubba hate each others guts, just something for us to talk about over Thanksgiving dinner. My heart goes out to the Palin family as their business will continue to be everyone's business and hateful, hurtful comments, such as calling someone dumb, will continue to be hurled at Ms. Palin and her family. Think how you would feel if someone referred to your mother as dumb. The Palin family members are trying to rebuild their lives, I think it's not too much to ask to afford them the courtesy of their own privacy and personal space in which to do so. If you would take the time to review her accomplishments, prior to your brilliant posting of "she is dumb" you would have been better prepared, and appeared more intelligent to those who have read your posting. Ms. Palin may not be polished as a woman of words, but as a woman of action, she is a maverick of which, the majority of male US govenors fail miserably in comparison. While we are handed empty promises with little or no action, she has kept her promises, taken action, and faced down one of the largest conglomerates in the US..............the oil companies. I would say Ms. Palin is very well equipped to have run this country, not as Vice President but as President. Ms. Palin's downfall in this election was not her intelligence, but her running mate. Ms. Palin, just like Ms. Clinton are both bright, well-read, well informed, sophisticated, cultured, highly educated women. The problem lies in the prejudices they face in a male dominated world. No matter how brilliant an up and coming Sarah or Hillary may be, they will always lose to the less intelligent, unqualified, untrained, inexperienced, incompetent simpletons they are forced to run against. However, the male population is not ready to relinquish any power to the hands of a woman, no matter how much more qualified she may be. The male ego is too inflated to ever believe a woman could possibly be smarter. Of course, it is women who run the household, most of whom are brilliant in their management of budget, especially in today's bankrupt economy compliments of our past male presidents, meeting deadlines, squelshing arguments, disarming disputes, and still manage to present beautifully in social situations. If America is truly finished with the male dumbing down influence and if the men of this country could put their big fat egos aside for one moment, a Clinton/Palin ticket would be the Golden Ticket. Two head strong, highly intelligent women, who will not bend to male dominence................You Go Girls. America needs you - we need to be an America we can be proud of. And by the way dear gentlemen, when posting never call yourself of your country the stupid one - therein lies the world's view of us. We are the first to put our own country down. If you have no pride in yourself, who will?

Thinker said...Hopefully, you're right, Tom. However, as you can see from the replies to your post, there are a lot of semi-literate, incoherent people who actually think she's smart. Just down dumb does a person have to be to think that an airhead like SP is smart? They even believe she meant it when she claimed to want to take Levi under her wing. Yeah right, and I've got a bridge in Brooklyn for sale. lmao

It always seem to go back to Obama when someone has issues to anything in the world. Sarah Palin is wrong for what she is doing with Levi seeing his son. If they don't want the baby to visit his home. Find a neutrual ground to meet so he can be apart of his sons life. She has no right to judge anyone. She is not a saint and who is going to tell everything about what is going on in their life. And it is the truth. She can write anything she wants in that book. That does not mean it is the truth. People are going to believe what they want to believe because they have nothing to hold on to in their own lives. So why not cling on to someone else's life.

Palin didn't even know who the President of Iraq was. Hell Palin thought Manual Labor was the President of Mexico. Palin thought "Moby Dick" was some sort of VD. But she can still see Russia from her back porch. Obama might not be doing everything perfect but he is a hell of a lot better than X- Gov Sarah (joe six-pack) Palin.

Perhaps when he gets finished bowing and scraping to Saudi and Communist dictators (he is in China right now getting his orders) he will get around to doing something for this country beside the stocking of the government with Commies and other traitorous effluvium. In the beginning I didn't think it was important, but the birth certificate question became THE question. I can produce a birth certificate. Each of my kids can produce one and anyone who applies for any Government job(Except for the job of POTUS,it would seem) is asked to present one ,why can't the President of the United States produce this simple thing and put the question to bed?? It should be simple for Barry,Show it and go; what's all the drama Barry? Could it be that Cozy Barak Ali Obama is an illegal President in that he has falsified statements on his application!!? P.S. As a leader,Mrs. Palin is looking pretty good right now, and besides, she IS an American who loves her country. What a concept eh,an American who is a real American and not some second or third generation punk. Tom,don't you feel stupid, being a follower, a lemming, a drone jumping on this anti Sarah band- wagon? Ambivalence would be understandable but you have no reason to dislike her, because you know nothing of her...only what you hear from others and read from hacks such as this Amy Hatch. Do you feel better now? You and your misfits are venting this bile against a person who has merely passed through without harm nor an ill word to anyone; while at the same time you fall to your knees to a man who cares more for this country's enemies than this country itself. May his Allah keep him safe and may God protect us from our enemies and the nescient among us.

Michael Steiner said...I think the key mistake you made here Tom was making a blanket statement. The majority of those voting in the election did NOT support McCain or Palin. This is not a matter of anyone being dumb.
It is a matter of a choice that was made. Secondly, I'm sure you've noticed that those who respond are leaning against Obama or anyone who tends to follow a liberal agenda; and any polls taken in this forum show that same result. So if you get inundated by responses calling Obama dumb- or any other type of name calling; just consider the source. Now, having said that; it is fairly obvious both now and during the election that Palin simply is not qualified in any way to be President. She lacks the experience and ability. Her actions are transparently self-serving including the supposed peace offering to the baby's father. The more she says and does it becomes more and more obvious. Despite the avalanche of responses that will plead her case and/or attack Obama; she is making herself more and more a non-factor in any future Presidential arena.

Newsflash to Levi: Your 15 minutes is almost up. Soon, with a bit of maturity, you will realize that you've been duped and now you have at least 18 years of facing the family that could have cared for you as well as your son.
Son, the major media are whores, profiting at the misfortune of others. Your views are not news, but mere gossip. (At least Jerry Springer doesn't try to hide the fact that his shows are nothing more than base entertainment. )

ciara13b said...as for tom saying america would be dumb to think palin could run the country, nowhere did he state that he voted for obama or supported obama in any way. that is an assumption on everyone's part here. if people did their own research and stopped listening to the media, you might just get the 'real' truth. snl? liberal media? that's funny...what about fox news? you THINK that is the truth? if you think the president is doing a crappy job, then by all means go out and run for president yourselves if you can do better. i think no matter what president comes into office, he/she is going to always be under fire for one thing or another. people should also be realistic when it comes to politics. ALL politicians have a platform that will appeal to people in whatever way, but i can guarantee you that most of the time only two or three, at the most, will be ones that they truly work on and see all the way through. it's called being masters of bullsh*t.
