Suri Cruise Stumbles in Her High Heels

Oh, baby! Those sparkly, high-heel sandals that pint-size Suri Cruise has been sporting recently look so adorable. Especially when combined with ponytails and Elmo.
But walking the walk ain't so easy, as the famous preschooler discovered. Credit: PPNY / GSNY / Splash News
But on a recent Boston outing with her mom, Katie Holmes, Suri, 3, apparently slipped while walking on a wet sidewalk. Mom, wearing flat boots, was there to keep her from falling.
And, so, the debate continues: Is it appropriate for toddlers to wear heels?

Maybe Tom should contact his inner thetan and realize out that their cult has made them all nuts. Or, were they nuts to begin with????

Cat said...Absolutely not. What's to debate. Scroll the photo and look at her from the waist down. That is not a baby's body with the heels. For fun in the house, sure. But on the streets? Come on Katie...let her be a child with running shoes so she can run, jump and just be a kid!

Maybe you are that way because your parents named you Gustav or maybe because your last name is Bunghole and we all know what that means. You just sound like an angry jerk. Little girls wearing high heels is nothing new. Little girls over the ages have loved to dress up and play at all sorts of games in fancy shoes and dresses. Do a search on the web and you will see TONS of dress-up outfits for little girls, everything from fairy wings to princess dresses with sparkly shoes. Should all parents be considered idiots if they let their children dress up as fairies because there is no such thing???? Maybe they don't want to squelch her creativity. Maybe she wanted to wear those shoes and they let her wear those shoes to teach her that when it is raining her toes will get cold in shoes like that and she needs to wear boots. Maybe it is none of your business to be so critical of people you don't even know. I would have to guess that you do not have a daughter of your own or you would know how little girls like to dress-up. Or if you do have a daughter she will grow up to hate you because you are so inflexible and domineering.

When will Mothers learn to distinquish between the real meaning
of "age approriate" behavior, and what's "cute". Perhaps Katie had a "wake-up call" when Suri slipped. Let's hope so.

Johanna said...Quit picking on this beautiful child. Think about it ... a manufacturer made these shoes in this little girl size, meaning she is absolutely not the only one wanting to "dress up". At least her clothing is perfect for her age, has anyone see what other parents dress their small daughters in? Has anyone see what is available in the little girls' dept. in all stores??? Suri could have tripped on that slippery sidewalk in any shoe.

The only way to keep her soft bones from growing improperly while wearing heels is for her to wear very loose heels - but very loose heels are unsafe. Additionally, the heels were designed for ballroom dancing and were bought with a 'mary-jane-strap' which goes over the instep, to secure the shoe safely to the foot while dancing briefly in competitions. However, the safety straps on Suri's ballroom shoes have been removed. Child-dancers have extremely strong feet, calves & arches, so they would actually be safer in the heels than little Suri. Walking on the toes, which is sometimes exhibited by children with autism, can cause tightening of the gastrocnemius muscles in children - and that can cause stunted bone growth in the calves. For these reasons, the heels are inappropriate.

Angela said...Yes, these shoes are great for dress up for a little girl, but she is not playing dress up. . . she is walking outside on a wet and rainy day. And yes, parents need to choose their battles. I personally believe that wearing clothing that is appropriate for the weather and activity being done is VERY important as a parent. Otherwise why not let her wear shorts in the middle of December in Boston? c'mon people, these parents need to either stop indulging this child's every whim OR stop treating her as if she's a mini version of themselves. Children need to be taught when very young what is acceptable and healthy behavior. . .allowing Suri to either always have her way or push her to mature to fast is doing neither her nor her parents any favors. Can't wait to see what she's wearing and acting like when she's a teenager. Even Madonna's daughter wasn't wearing heels at this age, reminds me of a young Drew Barrymore. But wasn't she even 8 or 9?

The parents are allowing this to happen, what will go on in years to come. As a educator there are so many other way a child can have fun and creative play. Allow children to grow up slowly and not have every child be a overachievers. Her mom and her should switch shoes!

Mary said...How long has she been wearing these? I guess her parents don't care if her spine is already starting to look like the beginning of a freeway cloverleaf. She will have so much to thank them for when she's in the hospital for ankylosing apondylitis.

Red said...It is definitely not appropriate for any child under the age of 12 to be wearing any type of heel or pump. It's ridiculous and dangerous. They could turn their foot and break their ankle and/or foot.

Lynn said...I agree with the people who think that Suri's heels are not appropriate for a little girl; add to that the rain and wet feet on a 3-year-old and it's just not right. Poor thing. And we women who wore 3-4" spiked heels in the 80's are paying for it now with bunions and hammer toes, lol - but UGH! Luckily, I stopped wearing them before my feet got deformed! High heels DO make women look sexier, but they MUST have been thought up by men! P.S. I love the way Jennifer Garner dresses her daughter, Violet - and lets her get dirty, too. Just an example that came to my head. She dresses her daughter like the kid that she is. Suri is just always too...clean, or something.

Doesn't anyone know about all the men in rehab for sex addiction? Well, I do and they are not just in for porn their in for molesting and ruining the lives of children and their own.
So, Tom and Kate, stop it. It's not cute, it's pure white trash. Give her a chance to evolve into a lady by educating her not by prancing around like a mini tramp! JMHO

Lisa said...I can see a lot of us are wondering how the cruises can be so stupid.
But we have to realize that they are "scientology" cult followers and these people don't exactly have "common sense".
Look what being a cult follower did to the travoltas kid, Jett- his parents turned his grand mal seizure disorder over to the care of the cult and the poor kid died convulsing in a bathtub. He had no medications in his system when he died because the cult was "treating" him.
Maybe a requirement for membership in the scientology cult is: Lacking Common Sense, and tons of money.
