Michele W said...I dont know about right after but my aunt just had major brain surgery to remove 2 anurisms that they had clamped off. A couple of years ago she had an anurism that burst and when they went in they found 2 more and just clamped them off for now. They had to cut half of her scull and no kidding they sent her home the begining of the 3rd day.
She had the surgery on monday and was out wed. morn. I think this is crazy and very dangerous but that is all her insurance would cover since she seemed to be doing ok. This isnt any little surgery and to be letting people go that quick is crazy. Someone is going to get hurt or die from this.

Kira said...In health care theses days you get them in and get them out, you think that would bring ins prices down? Aneurysm surgery is more invasive therefore you do not want to be jumping around going home that day if your head was opened, some aneurysm can be coiled etc..more noninvasive.
Gamma knife is noninvasive and people go home and get back into life. Gamma is usually used to treat a tumor(lesion) and there is no cutting, with gamma knife they irradiate the area. Example when you see a glass cube with a whale etched in the middle, that is how accurate gamma knife is, which is great because no you save the patient from treatment that would damage tissue/organs around the treated area. So hopefully those who have a tumor the in the shape of a penguin or turtle etc,, can have just that area treated giving them a better quality of life--We all like to keep our Melon intact:)

I've seen them open and close people surgically and do nothing more than claim a surgical procedure. It's really pathetic how the naive and uneducated press laps up the fraud and prints it.+

bpdoli said...So "Doc", if you have personally witnessed these events and not reported it, it makes you guilty by association. How about some names, and places to make your fiction a little more factual. A doctor can not just "open someone up" without at least 2 other witnesses, let alone those responsible for processing the surgery. Even the worst doctors out there are highly educated and detailed in their work. Your little accusitory blurb reeks of one lacking any doctoral education, since doctors are not prone to slanderizing others.

Chaz said...The Cyber Knife is used for pinpoint radiation treatments, so when the Pt has it done there is no incision, so the billboard is true.
We have one at the Hospital that I am an OR nurse at. It is really a cool and remarkable piece of equipment.

Josie Justimbaste said...Really...you are a doctor? Doctoral degree in Education? Doctoral degree in Pharmacy? Which one? If you are what you claim to be...do us a favor by reporting the pathological liars to AMA and filing a complaint with your DA. Posting here about them won't help.

Josie Justimbaste said...And obviously you're not a Doctor of Medicine because you have no idea what this procedure is all about. This involves use of gamma ray knife, meaning the procedure uses pinpoint radiation. Since, there is no cutting, no suturing, no anesthesia involved, patient goes home on the same day of the procedure.
You 're pathetic for misrepresenting yourself. People ought to be protected from people like you.

Kira said...Sorry but I work in research and this is it, this is the future of treating lesions benign and/or malignant that were otherwise considered inoperable due to location or health of the individual. I remember Gallbladder (chole) surgery use to require a large incision,n ow two to three puncture wholes and your done. The less trauma you cause the body the faster the body can recover. Heart surgery will soon be unable to detect(most surgeries) it will be done through three holes. Alert!! Some MD's still do not realize that a stroke may be unseen on a CT for 24-48 hours but will be WELL defined 45min after the stroke occurred on MRI-CT is needed to rule out a bleed many times but if MD still questions stroke then MRI should be ordered unless patient has a pacemaker, pacemakers are still not MRI compatible but they sre working on it

Don said...Kira, you seem to know quite a bit about medical procedures. My good friend had cyberknife in Boulder, CO and is doing well from that. He has several other health issues from repeated surgeries-brain, ear, eye and so on. Also do you know anything about Chiari malformation? My wife had the brain decompression in March 2009 by Dr. John Oro' in Denver, he was great. The hospital sent her home 36 hours later in a snow storm. Then sometime with-in the next 12 hours she had a heart attack, she is 44 years old. Symptoms are alot better but still in pain 24/7. Any ideas?

I woke up on the operating table after the surgery, I had my memory back and I was ready to go home, but they kept me a couple more days. They thought I would have to go to a rehab place but I was fortunate enough not to need it.

aileen said...Remember folks, this is not really surgery but a focused radiation treatment. There is no incision, no opening of the skin or a body cavity, no stitiches, sutures, staples, etc. It is purely a focused radiation session (not to suggest it is not a good treatment) but it as close to surgery as having your teeth polished is oral surgery.

Frank the tank said...I had brain surgery done on me eight years ago to remove an AVM. There is no way someone would be out of the hospital in a few hours. I was in the hospital for four days. I came out of the surgery at night. It took about twelve hours for the pounding head to go away. After that I felt ok but a little weak and was released two mornings later even though I probably could have been one morning. There is no need to stay in the hospital any longer than that. I was told to take it easy when I got home for a couple of weeks until I got the stitches taken out. I felt fine when I went home but listened to the doctor even though I wanted to go back to work.. I was back to work( I'm a Landscaper) in exactly three weeks from the day of the surgery. You have to love modern technology.

PRANCY99 said...Frank: I had an AVM burst 7 years ago. It was on the left lower part of my brain. I had no notice it was going to happen, but it burst. I had a sucessful surgery, but now I am plagued with Seizures. They happen about every other month. I am on a lot of anti-seizure meds, but I still have the seizures. Do you have this problem?
thanks!

frank said...Prancy99- My AVM was completely removed. It was medium sized right above the right side visual center. A little lower and surgery would have been impossible. I never had a catscan or any symptoms my whole life. No headaches or seizures. It happened when I was 33(textbook) without any warning. One day I just felt so worn down and it cracked. The bleeding caused a Gran mal seizure. I was unconcious and on a respirator for three days. I survived and over the next two months I was prepared for surgery with MRI's,angiogram, wada test and embolism. For months after the operation I was on antiseizure meds as a precaution until I had an EEG and was taken off the meds. I have not had any problems since then. Sorry to hear about you having problems. Hope you get better. Just a note about radiation treatment to some of the posters on here. It is not 100% effective. I chose to have surgery because my neurosurgeon told me it can be completely removed forever.

Kira said...Beware, a patient went into a hospital in Martin County, FL with stroke symptoms the MD ordered a CT to r/o stroke, bleed, TIA, etc.. the CT was negative. The MD ordered at STAT MRI but the MRI tech delayed it stating "The CT was normal, the patient did not have a stroke, the patient can wait" even though the technologist was told STAT(do immediately) the technologist further delayed the scan and by time the technologist did the scan the patient returned to their room and had another stroke. The patient went from being able to recover and have a excellent quality of life to now having a hemorrhagic stroke where swelling occurred and the brain was seriously damaged... No patient nor their family should have to go through what this individual went through, fortunately for the woman passed away approximately one week after her ordeal. This hospital called itself a stroke facility when its MRI Technologist did not have any common sense. Some facilities are not up to date and in this case the facility is further behind then most.
