You would think by now two things would have happend. First, the stupidity of individuals like this would have stoped. Second we would call them americans. He is not from africa, so why is he called an African American. I'm not called an Irish American just because my great grand parents cam from Ireland!!!

Cincinnati - I've opened my mouth before when I had to walk past a group of black youth who were making comments about my legs (whooeee, don't she have fine lookin' legs for a cracker, etc.) I turned right around, went up to them & told them, "If you guys don't like being called N-word (although I used it), then don't call white people "Crackers." I went on to tell them that most black babies are born much lighter in color and look "white;" that shocked them into silence! Guess they didn't know that! lol I also reminded them that it's only our outward appearances that are different. We bleed the same colour, work the same jobs, drive the same types of automobiles, love our families, so on & so forth.... Hopefully, I got through to that group. Maybe they'll think twice before opening their mouths. I prefer to give them the benefit of the doubt....

I am an African American and I'm tired of OUR RACE saying that white people think they are better then us. When I know alot of black people that think they are better then white people! when does all of this eventually break down.....cincinatti you dont do yourself much justice by sinking to a childish level by name calling i.e. "dumb bitch you as white as snow." Now I am half white and half mexican one of my good friends is a mix of "African, Puerto Rican, Irish, and Italian" So by your definition of nationality when someone asks my friend "what are you?" You expect the response to be "I am an African, Puerto Rican, Irish, Italian American." Like I said when does it all break down this is all completely unnecessary. Oh and since you seem to be a bit of a history buff. You may want to re-read some of that history. Yes its true white people took Africans from their land, but not by much force. There were many tribes in Africa at the time constantly waging civil war against one another. People of the tribes that lost the wars were enslaved and some were sold off to the "white man." So you see it actually worked out in your favor....you are on the internet able to voice your opinion on this topic, now lets see how many Africans in the motherland are able to do that.

It's a BIG reminder of the atrocities we "Americans" used to and continue to do to Black people. Unfortunately, segregation and the torture of Black people is still very much alive in the south. I would have taken the text message as a threat. What else could it mean? Give me one good reason a white person would send a Black person that text!

What an insensitive person you are. The reason you feel that way is because obviously you have no empathy for people and you have NO idea what it is like to have people judge YOU or say ignorant things to you because of your skin. I won't tell you my race, I'll let you speculate but I have met many people like you who have no concept of other people's pain. Is this a major news story, no, but I'm glad it's being told so that people like you see that ignorance and racism is alive and well. It is sad that the text that was forwarded was considered a joke, everything that people consider a joke is NOT funny. For me I don't like mean spirited or ignorant racial "jokes" and whenever I have been sent one, I let the sender know how I feel. Please know that you are getting the nicest possible version of how I really feel. Oh and by the way nobody is say poor black people, and this would not happen to a white student because White people in this country are very lucky in that they don't have to deal with much if ANY racism.

I am sorry that all of that is happening to you in that neighborhood. As a black woman I know what people in my race are capable of, we can be mean and racist, but please don't sink to their level and become just as ignorant. I know you know better than to judge a who race of people based on a neighborhood of Ill bread hoodlums. Please know that it is how their parents raised them, and not their race that determines their behavior, I was not raised that way and neither were millions of black people. God Bless you and I hope that your mother recovers soon so you can leave for a better and safer neighborhood.

I am a white (italian) girl, I cannot believe that there is still so much racism in the world. I am so happy that my children have a rainbow of different friends, boys and girls. My kids are half italian, and half mexican, but when people ask what they are, they tell them American. I wish that parents could deter their kids from being racist, what does it help to hate people for NO reason?
