Baby Wigs: Disturbing Trend?

Blogger Sandra Rose recently shared the story of a reader who says: "It's never too early for my baby to start looking glamorous like Beyonce!" The unnamed parent went so far as to have a lace-front human-hair wig custom made for her wee one, in a style much like her own. "I wouldn't be caught dead without my lace front and my baby won't either," says the mom.
Mommy-n-me wigs may just be the most disturbing parenting trend we've heard in a long time, and The Frisky agrees with us. That site wants to know what's next: Thong diapers?
How about coordinating stripper poles, one for the nursery and one for the master bedroom? Or better yet, twin therapists to deal with their matching self-esteem issues? Suri's high heels are starting to look a lot more innocent with every waking moment.
We even found an entire site dedicated to hair-raising a child.
Not surprising that super models want to check out the trend. Here's a discussion of baby wigs on the Tyra Banks show:
Were you embarrassed by your child's baldness and if yes, why?

Pat said...These mothers prefer their babies breathe the chemicals of hair dye that's on the wig rather than fresh air.

I just dressed her in girls clothes and taped a bow once in awhile. She also had the little hair bands.

Mom of a Baldy said...My daughter was completely bald until she was two and I always dressed her in girl clothes and a cute headband. Nonetheless, I got so many comments about my darling baby boy! I was never embarrassed, but she is now nice and for the longest time SHE was embarrassed that she had been a bald baby - she wouldn't even let me show people her pictures! Luckily she's over that phase now. And she has plenty of hair! I would never have considered a wig for her, but I'm sure putting a baby in a wig will have all kinds of interesting and hilarious unintended consequences!

I always just correct the people and say "He's a BOY" I dont get offended. One time an elderly woman told me my son was wayy too pretty to be a boy.. I'm still not too sure on how I feel about that comment. lol.

In the old days you were to say a boy was hansom and a girl beautiful. We all just need to be proud of how our children look and start worrying about how well behaved our children are and how they act.

My babies were just the opposite. My boys had so much hair people would think they were girls! Out in public I would get so many "She is soo cute" "Look at all that hair" I know I'm happy my babie were not born bald, guess it's the Mexican blood in us.

Richelle said...These poor kids are going to be judged enough by their peers & now they've got superficial, shallow mothers to put the cherrie on the dyfunction sundae? This is pathetic. TRUE parents, who deserve to have kids, teach their children that they are beautiful inside & out starting at birth. Dousche bags like this should not have kids. The little one is probably going to have plastic surgery by the age of 10 to "fix something" that her mother tells her is wrong with her. What a sad sad place biatches like this are making our world. Screwing up the next generation before they even learn to walk.

Desiree said...So what if your little girl is bald? MOST babies are born bald. Maybe I should shave my four month old's head because he has very thick, curly, blonde hair because everyone thinks he's a girl? Or should I just relax and brush it off because I know that he's a boy, that he's absolutely beautiful, and I love him regardless of what he looks like at four months? What next, special make-up for babies with portwine stains, Spanx for really chubby babies? People should just feel blessed to be able to have a happy, healthy baby.

Angie Pyc said...I had a beautiful little bald baby girl who always wore dresses and I had her ears pierced at a very early age. One day at the grocery store a woman came by and said, "Oh, look, he has an earring!" OK, the dress she was wearing was blue, but please..... My response - "Yes, he has one on the other side too." The dumb woman wasn't worth correcting.
