Baby Wigs: Disturbing Trend?

Blogger Sandra Rose recently shared the story of a reader who says: "It's never too early for my baby to start looking glamorous like Beyonce!" The unnamed parent went so far as to have a lace-front human-hair wig custom made for her wee one, in a style much like her own. "I wouldn't be caught dead without my lace front and my baby won't either," says the mom.
Mommy-n-me wigs may just be the most disturbing parenting trend we've heard in a long time, and The Frisky agrees with us. That site wants to know what's next: Thong diapers?
How about coordinating stripper poles, one for the nursery and one for the master bedroom? Or better yet, twin therapists to deal with their matching self-esteem issues? Suri's high heels are starting to look a lot more innocent with every waking moment.
We even found an entire site dedicated to hair-raising a child.
Not surprising that super models want to check out the trend. Here's a discussion of baby wigs on the Tyra Banks show:
Were you embarrassed by your child's baldness and if yes, why?

Sunnie said...This is so pitiful! It makes me think of when my youngest was a baby. He had to wear a helmet on his head because of Craniosynostosis. Yet I read an article in the local paper where parents were "forcing" their children to wear a helmet so they would have a "perfectly shaped head." WTF is wrong with people???!!! There's no such thing as a perfect baby. Whether it's head shape or hair. Seriously, just like driving, people should be required to take a test before they breed.

peggy said...These mothers should be bitch slapped. They should thank God that they are healthy and beautiful. So what if they don't have hair, eventually they will. There are worse things in life. Get a life, mom!

The baby in the Tyra video is adorable just the way she is. She looks worse with the wig on. What kind of crap is this? Wigs on babies. Young children in high heels. Young girls (10+) in outfits that are way more revealing than needed.
Parents don't bother to be parents anymore. They try to be friends. Friends come and go. Parents last forever. Kids need structure. I can't imagine what else this lady is going to do to her kid. First it's baby wigs. What's next? Drugs? Sex? Makeup at age 2?
People like this really irk the shit out of me...

IT'S A FREAKIN BABY!!!!! so what if people think it's a boy? does that hurt the baby's feelings? does it affect how they'll grow up? if so, not much! the wigs are the UGLIEST things I've ever seen! they could spend money on THEIR OWN COUNSELING instead of wigs for a bald baby! it's a FREAKIN BABY!!!!!!!!!! they should get OVER IT!!!!!! what's next, face lifts? drugs? breast enhancement? they're BABIES!!!!!!!!!

I have three beautiful daughters all have heads full thick curly hair. But they were bald up until they were 18 months. Though they were bald i dress them up in cute girlie outfits and they wore hats and headbands.. They were divas!! Instead of being ashamed or embrassed by their baldness i celebrated it. No one noticed of played attention to my girls baldness they more attention for being the girls that had hats and headbands that matched everything they wore. And when their hair finally came in we just braided up and put bows and barrettes on the little hair they had
