A new store devoted to a favorite marshmallow treat -- and microwave gag -- opened its doors this month, just outside of Washington, DC. The Peeps & Company store, in National Harbor, Md., features its iconic namesake as well as Mike and Ike, Hot Tamales and Peeps-themed t-shirts, sweatshirts and mugs.

"This is a great place for families," Kathy Bassininski, vice president of brand development tells ParentDish by phone from the ribbon cutting in National Harbor, Md.

The store features a wall of flavor that allows customers to mix and match Mike and Ike flavors, in case one prefers more lemonade-flavored candy and fewer cherry, Bassininski says. Hot Tamales lovers can check out a heat index and even dare to try one of the hottest Hot Tamales not sold anywhere else.

The funny thing about Peeps is a third of the people buying them play with them rather than eat them, she says. YouTube has plenty of videos of "jousting" Peeps, where two players place a tooth pick in the belly of their Peep, place them on plate in the microwave and heat until one Peep pokes the other.

But you'll have to bring your Peeps home to play. The store doesn't have a microwave.
