In one of Life's photos of the year, a five-months-pregnant Kendra Kaplan clutches the ultrasound results at the arrival ceremony of her husband, Staff Sgt. Joshua Kaplan, who was deployed in Iraq. She brought the results so that they could find out the baby's gender together (it's a boy!). The couple's three-year-old son, Ayden Kaplan, spots his dad in the crowd.YourVoice

Therefore, he came home on leave during his deployment several months back and she became pregnant (obviously!) Instead of criticizing, maybe people should be thankful that there are soldiers who allow them the freedom to make these comments in the first place! Thank you Staff Sgt. Kaplan!! Welcome Home!

It's called an RnR baby. Usually in the middle of a deployment, our soldier's get to come home for a 2 week break so that's when she got pregnant most likely.
I hate when people assume she cheated on him

Brittany said...To all those joking about it not being the dad's baby, you're just messed up in the head. That's so wrong... First, it could've been a short deployment, second, she could've gotten pregnant on leave, and third, they could've done artificial insemination... Just saying, think before you type. You all ruined a perfectly good picture with your rude comments.. Keep it to yourself.
Now about the pic itself.. I personally, think it's beautiful, wish I had a stretchmarkless belly to do that on, My husband wasn't home for our son's birth, was in CA doing training, and is now in Iraq... So this made me cry thinking of that....

Kendra Kaplan said...I am the one with the painted belly. My husband came home on leave in march. I got pregnant with twins. (which is why I was big at 5 months) I lost one of the babies in May. Your body stays large for a few months after the loss because it still knows your pregnant but now not with two but one. The baby was born on Dec. 2nd 2009. He was 15 days early. His name is Tomas. He is beautiful and perfect. We are so happy that at least one survived. Thank you to all those who loved the picture. I didnt paint it to get publicity I painted it for my husband. I had no clue that anyone would be there taking pictures I thought it was all familys. But thanks again.

One of similar articles, in which this info is given from the other point of view, I have found at http://www.pdfqueen.com one of periodical search engine.
