Octomom Doctor Accused of Gross Negligence

Dr. Michael Kamrava, the doctor who implanted multiple embryos in Nadya Suleman, aka Octomom, has been accused of gross negligence by the California Medical Board.
According to a story in the UK's The Daily Telegraph, the medical board found that Kamrava (aka Octodoc, aka Doc Ock) "provided IVF treatment without consideration regarding potential harm to the patient's future children," and accused the doctor of failing "to recognize that the patient's behavior was outside the norm and that her conduct was placing her offspring at risk of potential harm."
In case anyone has forgotten, Kamrava implanted six embryos into Suleman, despite the fact that she already had six children.
Concerns about Kamrava have been raised in the past. In February of last year, UK news outlet TimesOnline ran a story about British embryologist Shantal Rajah, who worked for Kamrava more than 10 years ago. She says she left his clinic due to concerns over the "level of regulation," Rajah tells the Times.
Kamrava was thrown out of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine last year, but still has a license to practice medicine. A California Medical Board spokesman tells the Telegraph that the board's findings could lead to that license being taken away, but that wasn't definite.
Do you think that Octomom's doctor was negligent?

Orange said...Kermit - get real. Nadya Suleman has a history of mental illness, was and still is unemployed, already had six children she wasn't caring properly for (did you see the condition of the house before the octuplets went home?), lived in filth and squalor, was single and had no business having eight more children. Isn't that enough? Children should not suffer because their parents are idiots. Hopefully, you won't have any children, because you sound like an idiot too.

Stanley said...Not only the doctor, but the Octomom too should both be held liable for their irresponsible actions. With children around the world starving, no one should be having 8 kids, even if they can pay for them, and that includes baby collectors such as Madonna or Jolie. This world will only support so many people, and we have already gone beyond that point when one considers the health of the planet. Perhaps some day the citizens of this country will figure out that the only health care system that will work is the only thing that works for all other industrialized countries, and that is the one payer universal health care system. If we had a one payer system, we might get some doctors who care more for people than they do money.

Tim said...Initially, I agree that the Doc & Mom should be charged with something, but in reality...stupid, ignorance & selfishness are not really crimes. I think this doctor should be able to keep a license and provide for this brood until they're of the age of 18yo.

Liz said...I have tears in my eyes---he SHOULD lose his license!!
After many attempts, including Clomid, IUI, and several IVF's, my husband & I became pregnant with ONE child---thanks to donors!
This will be our ONLY child.
The company that helped us (RMIA) would not even consider implanting ANY fertilized egg in a woman her age, with 6 children already.
It's just really sad, that a doctor would not consider the well being of a child---and, instead desire the publicity of an "Octomom".

BOONIETIME said...What about the Gosselin's doctor? She recently revealed there was a seventh baby that failed to develop. None of the children are identical twins. She was young and had already had a multiple birth from fertility treatment and apparently it wassuccessful the first time or she would be whining about the "difficulty". So that means seven fertilized eggs. Why no outcry there? They got a multi-million dollar gig when they should have gotten an investigation.

David said...First, doctors are not allowed to ask a patient about their financial status before deciding to provide IVF. Second, some states cover IVF via insurance, and again, legally, a physician cannot judge if a person should allowed to have another child based on her income, race, marital status, etc. It has been very common for infertility doctors to implant 6 eggs and perform selective reduction down to 2 or 3, but if a patient refuses selective reduction, there is nothing the doctor can do. Finally, there are hundreds of women who are single on welfare with 6 or more children who continue to get pregnant via our tax payers expense. Our government says we must allow them to get pregnant and doctors must assist them in getting pregnant if their insurance covers it, even if they are crack cocaine addicts!

He should be forced to MARRY her after all half of the babies are because of him and he can't say he didn't know her well enough to not put embryos in her womb. Not only that now he'll be burdened financially, physically, and mentally with the children and the wife.
