Between thanking the academy and insisting that it was an honor just to be nominated, how many actors remember to give props to their mamas?
Sandra Bullock did.
Accepting her Best Actress Oscar for her portrayal Leigh Anne Tuohy, a well-to-do Memphis mom who adopted Michael Oher, a teen in foster care who goes on to play in the NFL, Bullock made sure she gave kudos to the people who don't get thanked enough.
"I would like to thank what this movie was about for me, which are the moms that take care of the babies and the children no matter where they come from," Bullock said.
The actor also thanked her mom, Helga, "for not letting me ride in cars with boys 'til I was 18, 'cuz she was right, I would have done what she said I was gonna do."
Bullock wasn't the only winner to impart positive messages between thanking their agents and their lawyers (like Mo'Nique's message to her husband: "Thank you for showing me that sometimes you have to forego doing what's popular in order to do what's right.") wizzer said...The womens movement ruined the family unit. Look what has happened to our children since. Nobody to come home to or they are raised by strangers. Was it worth it? I thought it was all about the children? Women gave up the family for a career. THERE IS NO GREATER TASK IN LIFE THAN RAISING A FAMILY. Why do so many women AND MEN think that their own lives are more important than their childrens lives?

Darlene said...Alot of mothers have to work. My mother did. It also did not make her less of a mother. My Aunt was married at 18 and didn't have many skills for the work place when her husband left her with three kids. She lost everything and eventually because she lost everything her husband came and took her kids as well. It was a long time ago but it is still relevant today. I am a divorced woman with a child and need to work...I happen to have a very well behaved and intelligent child. Raising a family is very hard work...doing both is even harder. So don't comment against people like me, Strong independent working mothers who actually are good parents!
