Free Female Condoms for D.C. High Schoolers

Condoms -- they're not just for guys anymore.
Washington, D.C. officials announced that 500,000 female condoms will be distributed free of charge in areas of the city that have been found to have high rates of HIV. The prophylactics will be distributed at various D.C. locations, including high schools.
Although many cities offer free male condoms, this project will make D.C. the first city to distribute the female version, according to the Washington Post.
Funding for the condom giveaways comes from a $500,000 MAC AIDS Fund grant.
The Post says the new program is "an official acknowledgment of the futility of relying solely on the use of male condoms" to stop the spread of HIV and AIDS.
The goal is to make female condoms as ubiquitous as the male version. Director of the D.C. HIV/AIDS Administration Shannon Hader tells the Post the program is intended to "build on what already exists ... to expand options rather than limit them."
Here is a YouTube video that shows how to put on a female condom.

her response was they seemed like trash bags.
We bought some for fun, and... they do. Its odd how these are supposed to work, they seem like it would slip from place.....

Elizabeth said...It's about time, that's all I can say. Let's make women equally responsible for protection against HIV. Instead of your boyfriend saying he doesn't want to wear a condom, wear one yourself. Brilliant. I love it, and I wish more cities would follow suit.

Hopefully these condoms come with complete information and proper instruction on how to use them correctly because I'm sure there are very few young girls who are familiar with them...
