"It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood, a beautiful day to ... ROCK 'N' ROLL ALL NIGHT AND PARTY EVERY DAY!!"
Quick! Grab the Teletubbies and head for higher ground: The Kiss Army is taking over children's television.
Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley, who brought kabuki makeup, fire breathing and 7-inch tongues to rock 'n' roll when they founded the rock band Kiss in 1973, have signed a deal with Canada's E1 Television to develop a new kids' program.
The New York Times reports the half-hour comedy will introduce children to the band's music and stage personas. Simmons says in a press statement that this is going be a very special show.
In other words, don't expect the Wiggles.
Naturally, the show also will be used to promote Kiss-related merchandise, Simmons adds.
"Kiss continues to be the juggernaut of licensing and merchandising, from Kiss M&M's to Kiss Dr. Pepper," says the tongued one in the statement. "Kiss is a band, but also the only music brand. Continuing in our 35-year history of going where no band has gone before, we are proud to partner with E1."
The Times reports Simmons and Stanley will executive produce the series, along with E1's senior vice president of kids and animation, Frank Saperstein. E1 will distribute the show worldwide, but no other details about the show have been released.
Kiss original band members Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Ace Frehley and Peter Criss rose to prominence in the mid-'70s with hits such as "Love Gun," "Lick It Up," "Hotter Than Hell" and "Detroit Rock City."
Simmons and Stanley are the only two band members who have been with the group throughout its run.
This is not the first time the band has ventured into entertainment primarily geared toward younger fans. The band starred in a series of Marvel comic books starting in 1977. The first issue was famous because Simmons, Stanley, Frehley and Criss donated vials of their own blood to be mixed with the red printer's ink.
Simmons returns to TV for the fifth season of "Gene Simmons' Family Jewels" March 21 A&E.
