Little Boy Weeps When Told He's Not a Single Lady, But Dad Saves the Day
Filed under: Funny Stuff
Our vote for father of the day goes to this guy, Carlos Whittaker, who tells his rockin' 3-year-old that he's not a Single Lady. Okay, so daddy dearest momentarily rained on his preschooler's parade, but what makes us love him is how quickly he recovered.
As soon as he saw little Losiah stop dancing in his car seat, he says, "Yeah, you are. You're a Single Lady. Sorry...I was just kidding...You're a Single Lady, okay?"
Then, the paternalia, a pastor and Christian rocker himself, whose album, Ragamuffin Soul hits iTunes soon, joins in the chorus, followed by a heartfelt confession: "I'm a horrible father."
Dude, in our eyes, you're pretty awesome.
Whittaker, 35, and his wife adopted Losiah from South Korea back in 2006 and he told ParentDish in an exclusive phone interview, "My son is the joy of my life."
So, where did he get the name Losiah? Whittaker says he's always wanted to give his son his name, but figured that a Korean kid named Carlos would be cause for curious questioning throughout the boy's life. Since his wife liked the name Isaiah, they combined it with Carlos and came up with Losiah. His daughters have equally cool names: 7-year-old Sohaila, which is Arabic for morning star, and 6-year-old Seanna, which is Celtic for God is near.
As further tribute to his blended family, his song, God of Second Chances, alludes to the idea that "adopted kids are being given a second chance at a great life," he says.
But back to Single Ladies...how did the kids come to dig on Beyonce's hit?
"Alvin and Chipmunks: The Squeakquel," Whittaker says, laughing. "Ever since we saw that movie, they have not stopped singing that song."
For more fun with the family and his music, follow Whittaker on his blog at RagamuffinSoul.com. We certainly will be.

Lois D. said...The father's comment about adopted children being given a second chance at a great life is wonderful. My daughter had an unexpected baby @ 18 and she (with a little persuasion) decided to adopt the child out. It is an open adoption and there is not one day or instance that goes by that I (and my daughter) don't thank God for these wonderful people that are giving this child the life that neither my daughter nor I could give her.

Mindy said...Aw, Lois, that is so lovely to read. As the adoptive mom to two daughters, I feel like *I* was given a second chance at happiness when I became their mom. The one thing I would give them, if I could, would be the chance to know their birthfamilies. Your grandchild is fortunate to know both families - I wish all of you the best!
I love this video - that little guy looks a lot like my girls did at that age, and it seems like it was only yesterday, not years ago! What a neat family.

Emma said...Omg... please people do NOT make videos while you drive, especially with your precious children in the car - hand the camera to your wife

peachyn21 said...*Listen* to the video, sounds like his "wife" is the one holding the camera & video taping, not the Dad. No "responsible" parent would video tape their kids while driving. Some of you are so quick to judge & point fingers, remember when you point your finger at someone, you are always pointing three fingers back at yourself. The little guy is precious & the guy seems like a very loving father.

NannyMeredith said...I have to AGREE here. The minute I saw it I thought if your car seat cover won't stay on it's not the only thing failing on that seat. I am an absolute car seat fanatic. I nanny 4 children and the car seats are seersucked into my seat, all our latched AND teethered. I went out and BOUGHT 4 Britax Marathons so I could be 100% sure I trusted the seats! I can't understand anybody who loves their child but doesn't take a solid couple minutes to properly secure them......

Barbara Kephart said...I agree with the father's first exclamation. He IS "a horrible father". Everyone knows you do not lie to a child just because he cries. A good father would have stood by his convictions as a pastor and christian and used this as a teachable moment for his son.
