Little Boy Weeps When Told He's Not a Single Lady, But Dad Saves the Day
Filed under: Funny Stuff
Our vote for father of the day goes to this guy, Carlos Whittaker, who tells his rockin' 3-year-old that he's not a Single Lady. Okay, so daddy dearest momentarily rained on his preschooler's parade, but what makes us love him is how quickly he recovered.
As soon as he saw little Losiah stop dancing in his car seat, he says, "Yeah, you are. You're a Single Lady. Sorry...I was just kidding...You're a Single Lady, okay?"
Then, the paternalia, a pastor and Christian rocker himself, whose album, Ragamuffin Soul hits iTunes soon, joins in the chorus, followed by a heartfelt confession: "I'm a horrible father."
Dude, in our eyes, you're pretty awesome.
Whittaker, 35, and his wife adopted Losiah from South Korea back in 2006 and he told ParentDish in an exclusive phone interview, "My son is the joy of my life."
So, where did he get the name Losiah? Whittaker says he's always wanted to give his son his name, but figured that a Korean kid named Carlos would be cause for curious questioning throughout the boy's life. Since his wife liked the name Isaiah, they combined it with Carlos and came up with Losiah. His daughters have equally cool names: 7-year-old Sohaila, which is Arabic for morning star, and 6-year-old Seanna, which is Celtic for God is near.
As further tribute to his blended family, his song, God of Second Chances, alludes to the idea that "adopted kids are being given a second chance at a great life," he says.
But back to Single Ladies...how did the kids come to dig on Beyonce's hit?
"Alvin and Chipmunks: The Squeakquel," Whittaker says, laughing. "Ever since we saw that movie, they have not stopped singing that song."
For more fun with the family and his music, follow Whittaker on his blog at RagamuffinSoul.com. We certainly will be.

what said...You assume I'm uneducated because I don't follow the culture. Hmm... that seems like a point of view I'd expect someone with a certain mental poverty that is entirely based on the expanding culture of media influence to have. Hence, the lack of genuine discussion and the reverting to finger pointing. My main point is, the dad lied to his son to make him feel better. The subject of the lie was his gender. Now everyone wants to make a debate about the boy's gender which is really secondary to the damaging effects of his dad lying about it just to elicit a response.

Wayne said...If, indeed you are videotaping your family while attempting to drive safely...then, YES I would have to agree that you are a HORRIBLE father. Putting your family in jeopary by "distracted driving" is irresponsible...regardless of how "cool" it looks to your children!

Wayne said...The father is indeed taping. His wife would not just happen to turn it towards him as he was about to say "I'm a horrible father". It's obvious to me HE was the one recording.

Section8 said...The dude said it right on the money, he's a horrible dad. He should have just let the kid have his fun. They have it on video anyways so later in life they can properly make fun of him when he's old enough to defend himself. Then the other issue is that after the comment he made, he went back on it, just because the kid cried and his feelings were hurt. What type of lesson or role is has he just shown the child? "Cry and you'll get your way". No. sorry. He needs to stick to his guns and not cave in. This is why our society is on a downward spiral! NO accountability. Man up, you made the kid cry, suck it up, don't go back on your words. I'm a father myself and sometimes I say stuff that my kids don't like, but I'm the father not the mother or their best friend. It's my job to prep my children for real life because I'll tell ya this as that child grows older and thinks that crying will get him out of a situation, he'll be sadly mistaken at his own expence.

Baby's Daddy said...'Don't know is Susan Avery is more taken with the dad's ghetto-garb or his 'Christian Rocker' position, but she must have seen more of the video than displayed. The dad didn't stop the boy from crying, his two sisters and mom were barely able to reverse the hit the "Christian" dad's attempt to stop his son's 'gender confusion.'
Sad thing is it is way to early to block his son's descent into that Christian feared world of homophobia.
A three year old singing so happily and engaged is a wonderful thing. And, should be nourished without prejudice.
A 'horrible father?' We can tell his over reaction was evident even this this "Christian Rocker." How about we stop congratulating ourselves for adopting children and start loving them as they are.
I understand with two daughters, Carlos now has a son to display to his cultural hispanic family and his 'Christian' community, how horrible if his 3 year old would display even a slight inkling of gender confusion.
So video taping, watching that 2.5" screen, driving 70 mph, and oh yeah stopping his son from being a girl; Carlos must keep his priorities straight.
Maybe better call Sarah Palin for advice on how to stop this runnaway train and get his son back on track. Palin knows how to correct social deviant behavior.... doesn't she?
Where's Susan Avery's ire at psychological balance and true Christ-like mentality of none judgement of race, creed, and sexual persuasion. I guess adopting other nationality kids is 1 out of 3. Too bad a self recorded video made Carlos decide to not look like a 'horrible father' instead of just being right the first time.

menda said...The people saying that "Mom" was taping" are blind. Try looking at the video again. The Dad was CLEARLY taping! You can tell from teh camera angle AND how he flips it around to talk to it. He should NOT have been taping while driving his WHILE family at all! Plus, this looks a little set up. They've obviously been through this before, probably one of the little girls said it and the boy gave the same reaction. After all, the girl in the middle, as soon as the kid starts in gets pissed off and stops singing and sits there, arms crossed looking at the little one like he the plague. Total set up AND dangerous for them and OTHERS on the road!

menda said...And my second thought is, I am sick to death that people are adopting kids from OTHER countries instead of our Amerian kids that are starved for a family, home, and love HERE! If your going to adopt, start with your own backyard! I'm sick of other Countries SELLING kids off to desperate people. And those that are here that have "red tape"" need to learn patience and get around it. We have far too many of our own here that need homes then for us to go trolling in some other Country from go.
