Little Boy Weeps When Told He's Not a Single Lady, But Dad Saves the Day

Our vote for father of the day goes to this guy, Carlos Whittaker, who tells his rockin' 3-year-old that he's not a Single Lady. Okay, so daddy dearest momentarily rained on his preschooler's parade, but what makes us love him is how quickly he recovered.
As soon as he saw little Losiah stop dancing in his car seat, he says, "Yeah, you are. You're a Single Lady. Sorry...I was just kidding...You're a Single Lady, okay?"
Then, the paternalia, a pastor and Christian rocker himself, whose album, Ragamuffin Soul hits iTunes soon, joins in the chorus, followed by a heartfelt confession: "I'm a horrible father."
Dude, in our eyes, you're pretty awesome.
Whittaker, 35, and his wife adopted Losiah from South Korea back in 2006 and he told ParentDish in an exclusive phone interview, "My son is the joy of my life."
So, where did he get the name Losiah? Whittaker says he's always wanted to give his son his name, but figured that a Korean kid named Carlos would be cause for curious questioning throughout the boy's life. Since his wife liked the name Isaiah, they combined it with Carlos and came up with Losiah. His daughters have equally cool names: 7-year-old Sohaila, which is Arabic for morning star, and 6-year-old Seanna, which is Celtic for God is near.
As further tribute to his blended family, his song, God of Second Chances, alludes to the idea that "adopted kids are being given a second chance at a great life," he says.
But back to Single Ladies...how did the kids come to dig on Beyonce's hit?
"Alvin and Chipmunks: The Squeakquel," Whittaker says, laughing. "Ever since we saw that movie, they have not stopped singing that song."

He is a baby! who cares what he sings, if he is happy shouldnt that be all that matters? and for you people saying he needs to "man up" he is three years old he does not need to man up do you honestly think that it is wrong for a three year old to cry? if you do then you have no heart and i hope you never have children because those kids would be so unbelievably miserable. and you all act like these parents are beating this children, yea he shouldnt be driving and video taping but he wasnt even looking backwords, instead of getting all worked up over that you worry about the people who verbally, sexually, and physically abuse their children or any children at that!

happen... they might be androgynous until the onset of puberty, just
like every other child to be born and raised in the thousands of
years we've been civilized... what a step backwards.
We need to push forward, full throttle, buy your children bra's at 2,

malcolm said...So i'm trying to figure out how anyone (not just parent) should best handle a situation like this. First, no one should ever (best word for this situation) challenge a three years old imagination and creativity play. This really shouldn't have happened but it does all to often. Developmentally they are too sensitive/too young to understand social norm and cues. So a bit of it is letting them be themselves and explore while providing boundaries. Unfortunately, but ohh so innocently dad missed the mark.
Lastly: How does a parent recover.... sigh. Tough. I think did dad did right by immediately apologizing. Although it wouldve probably helped more if he was able to identify what it was that hurt the toddlers feelings. i.e. "I'm sorry i stopped you from singing and it hurt your feelings...." good teaching/learning moment there. Dad can even go back to this moment later on in the day and apologize. Another good teaching moment (one can go back and fix mistakes and own up to them!)
What i love the most about this dad's approach was that he was able to make a fool of himself. Parenting isn't easy. And there is no one way or right way. Just the growing way.

Mena said...Actually, what's sickening is that you're so close-minded that you criticize a three-year-old for enjoying himself and call him a "homosexual immigrant." First of all, he may be an immigrant but he was adopted into an American family which in turn makes him an American. If he doesn't fit into what you believe an American should look like that's YOUR problem but regardless of what you think he's an American. Secondly, where do you get off calling a toddler a homosexual? As far as I know, there have never been any confirmed reports of preschoolers coming out of the closet nor have I heard of a GLBT chapter at my local preschool or daycare. Are you going to tell me you were 100% secure in your sexuality when you were three? You didn't even know what sexuality was when you were three!! Just because this little boy likes this song that does not mean its going to set the course for his sexual identity. Also, the song says "all MY single ladies"-at no point does Beyonce say that she's a single lady so the little boy was just shouting out to his ladies. You need to chill out and give the bigotry and ignorance a rest. It's gotten old and quite frankly, we're all sick of it and you've just proven, once again, how pathetic you and those who think like you do really are.

Most probably do not even have kids so what the hell would they know anyway? You are RIGHT when you say 'we are sick of bigotry and ignorance',with people always trying to make everything into something negative.They must be very miserable if that is all they see in this video. This film was cute,funny and what happens in Real life,I have similar things with my kids and grandkids.The father was joking (get it) he had no idea it would hurt the little guys feelings. And the girl in the middle is fine, just disapointed that the singing was interrupted. Thank you !!

What is this world coming to when a father tells his son he's a single lady just to shut the kid up? No wonder our kids are in so much trouble today. Why didn't the dad take a minute and explain to the kid that ladies are girls, and he isn't a girl? Oh, and just wait for the fallout when the kid goes to preschool and announces to the class that he's a single lady. When the kids get through laughing and telling him he's NOT a single lady, the kid is sure to come undone. Again. When parents started telling kids anything to make them happy instead of telling them the truth, especially about something so essential as whether they are a boy or a girl, we did our children a major disservice, both to their intelect, and to their development. Teaching children the way things are, instead of lying to them to make things the way they want them to be, prepares them for a life filled with truths that aren't always the way we want them to be. Raising healthy kids this way creates healthy adults.

This man is a good father he meant well. All human beings make mistakes. I'm super sure God isn't losing any sleep over dad's little mishap with the wording.

Losiah is adorable, the father and mother are great the sister who is comforting him is great and the little girl in the blue shirt is like 8! "her body language can't be overlooked" is a stupid thing to say! Who likes it when there little siblings cry's in their ear in the car!
