A nice Emily or Sarah or Melissa? Soo not Hollywood. Names like Brian, William or Ken? Yeah, right. Because, apparently, when you're a big-time star -- be it actor, musician, model or athlete -- it seems there is a weird-quotient that must be factored in when it comes to your child's name. Whether you borrow from the supermarket (Apple, Sage, Thyme), an atlas (Bronx, Brooklyn, Memphis) or superhero-sound-alikes (Kal-el, Moxie CrimeFighter, Pilot Inspektor), stars are guaranteeing their offspring will stand out in one way or another.
Here's a list of ParentDish's 100 weirdest baby names, in alphabetical order. Hey, the richer the parents are, the less likely you are to be teased. Just ask Tallulah, Rumer and Scout.

Dodie said...My given name is Dodie, with my middle name being the letter K. That's it, just K- no period after the letter, since it doesn't stand for anything. Oh yeah, and did I mention my last name is Rippentrop? Try learning to spell that in kindergarten!

Jeff said...years ago on "To Tell The Truth," they had people on with names like:
Gas O'lean, Robin Banks, Mael Aletter, Ima Stone, Candy Barr, Sarah Soeder and Mary Chrismas.
and, except for Mary and Sarah, as I recall, they were adults at the time, so the damage their parents inflicted, was already done.

xandra said...I worked with a very sweet young lady for a few months in college, who gave birth to a baby girl...and I was standing right there when she told me she named her 'Genesis Celeste (Last Name)'.
All I could think was that Final Fantasy 7: Crisis Core had just come out that year, and that she was going to get pegged as having a very popular MALE video game character's name. Poor baby.

Charla said...My name is Charla (pronounced Sharla), which, as of late, isn't that different. But growing up, I was definately the only one around. My husband (Joseph, how boring) and I name our son Emicho (pron: ehmiko). Pretty sure no one else will choose that name around here!

barbara said...Sadly, these poor Children are saddled with these idiotic names for Life because their Parents were too egomantical to think about the Child - just about themselves and how these strange names would affect their sweet Babies in later years - Look at Chastity - one of the First really Odd Names with which to brand a Child - There should be a law passed that gives a Child the right to change their name BEFORE they have to start to School - I am betting that many of them already know by that time just how WEIRD their name is -----And Please none of that "A Rose by any other Name would smell the Same" - It would not have been as popular had it been named "Stinkweed"!!

Katrina said...To you Barbara, I know if I had to pick a name at five years old, my name would probably be Minnie right now. Secondly, I grew up being the only Katrina around. I disliked my name when I was younger but it is me. I would never change it.
