Josie Duggar Returns to Hospital

Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar celebrated the homecoming of their 19th child, Josie, last week, but the littlest Duggar is back in the hospital after her vital signs dropped suddenly in the early morning on April 8.
The couple, co-stars of the TLC reality TV show "19 Kids and Counting," brought Josie, who was born prematurely on Dec. 25, back to Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock on Thursday at 3 a.m., according to People magazine.
The family is living in a rented home in Little Rock in order to be as close to the hospital as possible while Josie, who was delivered by C-section at just 25 weeks gestation, gains strength. Mom Michelle suffered from preeclampsia. They brought the little girl -- who now weighs in at four pounds, 12 ounces -- to their temporary home in Little Rock for the first time on April 6.
The magazine reports that fortifiers added to breast milk to boost Josie's calorie intake are the culprit, which led to constipation. The constipation, in turn, caused her vital signs to fluctuate, Jim Bob tells People.
He added that the couple has been keeping a very close eye on their new addition. He quoted the Josie's attending physician, Dr. Robert Arrington, co-director of the hospital's neonatal intensive care unit: "Dr. Arrington told us to never trust a preemie," Jim Bob tells People. "That is really true."
Doctors are trying new combinations of fortifiers for Josie, Jim Bob says, and he adds that he and Michelle are riding the emotional roller coaster of caring for a preemie.
"It seems like she will do great for a few days and then have challenges," Jim Bob tells People. "We are so encouraged about how she's doing, and it is amazing how she's filling out. But, even though she is beyond her due date and over the four-month mark, she is still not at the weight of a full-term baby."
It is not yet known how long Josie will remain at Arkansas Children's Hospital, and Jim Bob tells People that the super-sized family would "really appreciate everyone's continued prayers" for the little girl.

If every family in America raised their children like the Duggar's do - to love God, to love family, to love our neighbor - to be accountable and responsible individuals - our society would be in a much better place. Peace be with you.

Mary said...I watch "19 and Counting" on a regular basis. I think these are wonderful parents who love each other and ALL children. Show me one family who says they don't have the older children watch the younger ones or help with them with them, they are lying. The Dougars home school their children, and in order to do that there has to be guidelines for the adults, NOT THE OTHER CHILDREN, doing the home schooling. If they want to have 50 kids that is not for us to judge, if they weren't suppose to have as many as they want, the Good Lord would not have allowed them to have them. I DO think they need to step down and let the older kids have the babies now so Jim Bob and Michelle can enjoy their grandchildren as well as their own children. I think we should all pray for Josie and the Duggar family.

MM said...I know how it is to have a preemie and unfortunately my little one didnt make it. I pray for little Josie to get well and thrive. I am sorry for all the negativity that Michelle is getting for having 19 children. If they are happy with their lives why does anyone else have the right to judge? God Bless you Duggar Family! My prayers are with you.

I agree what difference does it make if the children are well cared for but in this day and age it seems excessive. Families centuries ago would have this many children but they did so for reasons of family survival and the extra hands needed to work, store and make household/needed items in the spring, summer & fall for the winter months, so the family could make it through the times when the man would be out hunting for extended periods and winters were to brutal to get out. If they wish so many kid's and don't want the comentary, perhaps they should just have them privately out of sight of the news media. Most people think this many kid's in 2010 is ridiculous, but I guess to each his own as long as the kid's are well cared for!

It is not up to me to judge another's decisions (and I am gratefull for that, too much stress for one person). I can only offer my prayers to the Dugger Family and thank them for allowing me to be apart of their family (even if it is from a distance). God bless the Dugger Family, and all who have commented. We will have peace with acceptence and patience with whatever God has planned for us.

Any man who says his daughters have to submiss to their husbands doesn't deserve to have children in the first place. A penis doesn't make you the boss, unless that's where your brains are. If you tried that crap with me I'd kick your bible thumping ass from here to next Tuesday.

They should take the clue that it is time to stop having kids. The oldest one is already gone and hopefully the girls will get married and move away too...then who's gonna take care of the little ones? Michelle is over 40, has had 19 children..4 c-sections...pre-eclampsia...now has a micro-premie to care for; who is gonna have obvious gastrointestinal problems and lord only knows what other kind of problems...STOP! I'm sure you guys love your children; but this is just sinful! I know they don't believe in Michelle taking birth control pills; but there are condoms! Come on JimBob, go buy some and for God's sake; USE 'EM! I'm sure that some company ie: Trojans, would be glad to donate some!
I have prayed for this poor baby since it was born and I hope she continues to grow and get healthy!

Paula said...What a shame this little baby has to have with so much difficulty. Enough is enough...you wonder if they continue to have these innocent children for the money and the continuance of the show. I wouldn't be surprised if one of your own children run from this insanity! Put a cork in it JimBob.. the two of you are absolutely ridiculous and very annoying with those holier than thou stupid smiles. Poor little Josie - I pray that you don't have health issues in your life because of your parents' selfishness.

And the drs say once you have a preemie following pregnancies may be the same....early. And of course the baby is going to have set backs just wait til the little angel starts really getting exposed to all the germs from the other children! Might as well get aquainted with a hospital staff closer to home. And the drs appts are ridiculous but you have to take percautions. Time to cut tie and burn her tubes! If they want more kids..... Adopt there are plenty of children that need loving permanet homes!

silvia said...I think JimBob should have his vas deferens snipped. Why should Michelle have surgery when it is much easier for the man to get sterilized? A little snip and ice, few days and he will be good as new. Just not able to produce more babies. The husband rules in the Quiver family and the woman has to obey. Yes, even when it comes to sex [unprotected sex]. The men don't care, it's not them pushing out the babies.
