This is How We Roll: Taga Stroller Bicycle

The coolest bicycle built for two. Credit: Taga
The Dutch are really quite clever. Not only did they give the world clogs, tulips and the incandescent Audrey Hepburn, now they've come up with an ingenious mode of parental transportation.Called the Taga, it's a three-wheeled bike with a stroller attached. But here's the beauty part: You can quickly snap up the bike and voila it's instantly transformed into just a stroller. So you can cycle to a café, sit down and indulge in a latte and a slab of chocolate cake and then cycle back (conveniently negating the guilt of gobbling down an oversize slice of cake).
The Taga, which just made its U.S. debut, took more than four years to develop. In Europe it's already snagged prestigious kiddie, design and biking awards.
As far as we can tell the Taga has only one flaw, but it's a biggie. The price, it's a whopping $1,495. Yikes, that's a whole lot o' lattes and rhubarb.

Sue said...If you spend over $2000 for a bike, then you are doing to impress others unless you are a pro bike racer. Even a fitness addict putting 100 miles a week on their bike for months on end can find a durable excellent bike that will last for years for under $500. Good safe baby carriers can be purchased that securely attach to the bike for under $200. Besides, a good parent wouldn't go off a smooth bike path or neighborhood street with a baby onboard anyway. This is a Yuppie toy for people with too much money to spend.

Lisa said...I am replying to sue, while I think the bike is pricey, I was very excited to find it. For our family it is going to be a life saver for us to beable to go and get out as a family. We have a little girl with Down Syndrome and at 7 is still not able to ride a bile , she will not get into a trailer in the back (it scares her) so this will be the answer for us and I would guess others in the same situation.

Marissa said...That is just plain sick and jeopardizing the childs safety. Any accident and the child takes it head on and actually becomes a buffer for the mother.

Laura said...You made me laugh, good one! It's far more likely that the front tire would come into contact with an object first than the child ...and just how fast do you think these mamas can roll? I plan on getting one. I'll let you know if my son saves my life by acting as a bumper....

Lisa said...I so disagree Marissa, I feel less safe with my little ones in the back, They are up higher and with them in the front I can at least see whats coming and anticipate what to do , when they are in the back I'm always worried that someone in a car will be texting and run into the back of us.

Tom said...Marissa, calm down. Laura is right, the front tire impacts first and with the position between the (VERY) sturdy handlebars, the solid child seat with the 6-point restraint system ensures that Taga is far safer than the child being on the back. Plus with three wheels you have added stability and even better going on ice and snow. The Taga has won a bunch of safety awards over here in Europe, and shows no sign of slowing down. I disagree with Sue, but it comes down to opinion. We're US Military and won our Taga but even if we hadn't, we would have saved and bought it once we test drove it. It's just that fun; it's got nothing to do with 'showing off'- it's whatever you enjoy the most with your child. I swear by our Taga and can't wait to bring it to the states with us. :)

ruth said...laura and Tom is correct and i agree there comments.my opinion is taga bike is not for showing off it is about for child transport solution for parents wha had young children. taga bike is best I test it and i like it because anywhere you can carry.unlike triokar a bit hassle but not bad for other parents who has patients for folding parts of a bike.taga bike is very safe indeed for a child.taga bike can be use from new born w/ maxi cosi extention, plus toddler plus easy shopping groceries.

Rezal said...I'm a Taga user for 6 months, my wife and I have explored many ways to get around the city, trips to the daycare, without having to rely on cars and taxis. We are from Singapore and resides in an apartment
Option 1: Regular sized bike with child
- rain: child will get wet/ get cranky/fall ill,
- 2 wheels: safety, falling, slippery surfaces
- not allowed on public trains.
Option 2: Hitched Bike trailer:
- having to park bike downstairs and open to theft,
- Juggling a bike, trailer and child - while trying to get into an elevator
Option 3: Foldable bike with trailer.
- handle a bike and a stroller/trailer in either hands?
Option 4:Zigo
- same problem with Opt 2 & 3 - where can I leave the bike?
Taga fits the bill.
- Rain - raincover for child does a better job than raincoats.
- All-in-1 : nothing gets left behind, allowed on public rail systems as a stroller
- Pricey? yes, but I saved SGD$300 on transport expenses(taxis trips) per month and would more than made up for the cost of the bike in a year.
An unbiased opinion, based from experience.
