New Turnaround Teacher 'Trying To Get It Right' In Tough School
Is This 'Single Ladies' Video Too Hot for Tots?
Filed under: Funny Stuff, Music, Tween Culture
Help us settle a debate at ParentDish: While we all agree the young girls in the video are fierce and fantastic dancers, we're torn when it comes to their costumes. Are their ensembles too sexy for their age or completely appropriate?
The pint-size dancers performed the routine at Wold of Dance Pomona 2010 in Pomona, Calif., on April 10. Unconfirmed reports state that the girls are 7 years old, and World of Dance organizers did not return ParentDish's calls.
If you have a child enrolled in dance classes or if you've been to a kids' dance recital or competition recently, you might find the costumes de rigueur -- not shocking or provocative. Of course, costumes are part of a dancer's artistic expression, adding drama to the performance while allowing them to move. But do prepubescent girls need to express themselves in bra tops, booty shorts and fishnet sleeves?

brenda said...Wow ! That really bothered me to see young girls doing that type of dancing it was very inappropriate. This is just become a pedophiles dream video.I hope the parents realize that a nasty person is going to violate these girls over and over again. How dare the parents and dance instructor let these little girls become that. They should be ashamed.

Patricia said...It is disgraceful to have young girls dance that way and have them wear the outfits they were in. What ever happened to teaching our girls respect for themselves and others and over all morals. In this day and age we allow our youth to behave as perversely as they want and say it is ok, then we turn around in the same breath and wander why we have so many issues with rape, sexual assaults and misconduct and even youths molesting other youth. If we behaved appropriately and made our kids do the same, maybe we wouldn't have so much inappropriate sexual behavior in the world. This dance school needs a serious reality check as to how innocent 7 yr. old girls should be dancing and appearing to others.

sherry said...those outfits were not necessary! the impact would hve been just as strong without them. oh and the dance moves a little extreme for their age. my daghter is 10 going on 16. never would have let her do those moves.

Kelsey said...wow yeah ok anyone that thinks this was appropriate and ok is stupid.no 7 year old should wear something like that or be doing those dance moves. They are good dancers i'll give them that but definelty not appropriate for their age. If they were 17 instead of 7 it would be a little more appropriate but no this is just wrong.. If i had girls instead of boys you best believe they would never be doing anything like that

Diane said...This is totally inappropriate for 7 year olds. What was the dance teacher thinking? 7 year olds are being taught that "sexy (sex)" sells by the cheers from the audience. There are some pedaphiles having a great time tonight.

JANETTE HODARA said...ABSOLUTELY INNAPROPRIATE FOR A KID. IT GIVES THEM A VERY WRONG MESSAGE OF THE ART OF DANCING AND ANTICIPATES A SEXY ATTITUDE WHICH IS REALLY AWFUL.

K said...How sad that ADULTS are negatively commenting on 5 talented little girls! If some poeple would spend half of the time they spend gossiping on trying to help others the world would be a much more beautiful place to live in! As a national choreographer - THESE GIRLS ARE FEARCE with amazing technique! I would be proud to say any one of them was my little girl. You can't fault a dancer for being to sharp, we ask them to give it 100% and be as sharp as they can be. Worry about the Mom that encourages her hockey player to check other kids, or the Mom that swears in front of her children and laughs when her kids do it. Or better yet, worry about the Mom that smokes around her children or while driving them to "more appropriate sports" as some have posted. Get a grip, don't concern yourself with a Mom that puts her child in a non contact sport!

Looking at the video I seriously thought those girls were probably well in their twenties. Since when has "poppin'" become appropriate for elementary school children?

Emily said...I believe that the costumes and some of the dance moves are completely inappropriate, but you have to admit, those 7 year old girls are phenomenal dancers!

Alanee said...thats so horrible that these parents are making their 7 year old little girls dress so horeish and dance so sleezy and are okay with it and their daughters are going to grow up haveing that same mentality and if a child melestor saw that it would be another story i dont care how old you are that is only okay if you are a stripper........... great parenting NOT if i were a police office i would put the parents in jail. i just cnt believe it :(

Giina said...this is the 21st Century - time to stop sheltering our children to the reality of what society is and has become - from this to the Miss USA photo shoot. If the parents find no objection - who are we to judge others expression of life. Tell the tribes in Africa to get some clothes on if this bothers you too. What about the "Flirty Girl" Fitness Dance Video and Stripper Pole you can get. There was also a Stipper Pole Toy for children fom the ages of 9+ a couple Christmas' ago. I gotta say the kids did a heck of a performance. Parents free will and choice - the kids will prob be excellant athletes - healthy/not obese and good students from this type of discipline and training. What they did is not easy. Better to be on stage than out on the streets.

Madonna said...Clearly some of the people that have responded to this do not have children or should not have children. The outfits are completely inappropriate and a 7 year old CHILD should not me making such provocative gyrating moves as these CHILDREN did.
This is totally embarrassing!

The further in life that I go, it seems as though people are targeting younger and younger kids to preform adult like acts. I think that it is repulsive. I do not have a daughter, but can tell you if I did she would not have anything to do with that dance school at all. This is wrong, and more parents should stand up against it.
