Is This 'Single Ladies' Video Too Hot for Tots?
Filed under: Funny Stuff, Music, Tween Culture
Help us settle a debate at ParentDish: While we all agree the young girls in the video are fierce and fantastic dancers, we're torn when it comes to their costumes. Are their ensembles too sexy for their age or completely appropriate?
The pint-size dancers performed the routine at Wold of Dance Pomona 2010 in Pomona, Calif., on April 10. Unconfirmed reports state that the girls are 7 years old, and World of Dance organizers did not return ParentDish's calls.
If you have a child enrolled in dance classes or if you've been to a kids' dance recital or competition recently, you might find the costumes de rigueur -- not shocking or provocative. Of course, costumes are part of a dancer's artistic expression, adding drama to the performance while allowing them to move. But do prepubescent girls need to express themselves in bra tops, booty shorts and fishnet sleeves?

Why do 7 YEAR OLD girls need those outfits? They are cute and great dancers. Plain and simple...The peformance would have been just as great if they were covered up more!!!

Karen in AZ said...I won't even justify this by watching the video. The costumes and lack of coverage are so far over the top that the parents should be totally ashamed of themselves as well as the dance instructors! You wonder why children end up as they do when they grow up...it's the way they've been taught!
God Bless all of them & protect them!

Their parents are pimping them out. This is disgusting and disturbing and the audience makes me sick! Where the h*ll community is this????

The only reason why a girl dances like that is to be noticed in a sexual way and have her body looked at. When your older there's not much you can do. Any man would look at these girls and there's one thought on their mind. If you were looking to avoid attraction to pedophiles, opps there went that out the window. Childhood is a time of innocence. Not turning 7 and 8 year old girls into streetwalking whores. There is no denying the talent of these girls, but the dance is completely not age appropriate. I've seen strippers with less talent, they're 8 and 7 now, think of what they will deem acceptable as they get older. It's your job parents to protect their innocence, it will be shattered quicker than you know.

Shame...SHAME on those mama's and daddy's for programming that type of "Sexy" into those innocent, impressionable little girls. Wonder how many will end up being promiscuous, strippers, hookers, and users? I wonder???

M. Moore said...I agree, it is inappropriate. Something about underaged girls wearing outfits that resemble stripper clothes is just wrong. The dancing itself was fantastic, they did it well, just the costumes is what made it wrong on to may levels. Who ever taught the girls to dance should be held accountable.

Adults/Parent just are not protecting and teaching respect, morals and values. These seven year olds minds are being formed and shaped and these type of activities force the younger generations to grow up very fast and take the innocense of children away. Parents need to wake up because when these 7 olders turn 12/13 and are running around and sexually active, you have no one to blame but your self.

Some people view the costumes as completely inappropriate, and then there are some folks who just might have some sort of twisted, distorted image or idea of what those costumes may be saying. As has been stated, those young ladies have a dance routine that is full of energy and each has stamina beyond belief. I applaud them, their dance instructor(s) and the costume designer.
