Jillian Michaels Explains Pregnancy Misquote: Endometriosis

Jillian Michaels, who had been taking heat for saying that "pregnancy ruins your body," a comment that she says she never said or believes, was interviewed recently about the real reason she won't get pregnant: Endometriosis.
"I learned very early on that I have endometriosis and polycystic ovaries," Michaels said in an interview with Momlogic. "I was always told that fertility would/could be a problem for me."
She explained that the reporter for Women's Health magazine, which featured the interview with the misconstrued comments, started asking her about having kids at the end of a very long three-hour interview.
When asked about whether she wants kids, Michaels just skirted the issue, saying she couldn't handle doing that to her body and that she planned to adopt.
She told Momlogic that in order to have kids, she'd require surgery to treat the endometriosis, and it was in response to that -- not gaining a big pregnant body -- that she made the comment about not "handling doing that to my body."
Endometriosis is a condition of the endometrium, which lines your uterus. In this condition, the lining grows in other places as well, most often onto your fallopian tubes, ovaries, or the tissue lining your pelvis, according to the Mayo Clinic. The result leads to inflammation of the surrounding tissue, cysts, scar tissue, and adhesions, causing pain and also fertility problems.
Polycystic ovaries contain lots of small cysts that make it difficult to get pregnant.
"I don't feel that pregnancy ruins a body at all, and I was really upset that an entire community of women felt hurt by what I allegedly said," she continued in the Momlogic post. "So much has been misconstrued and taken out of context. I do expect that from the media, so I don't really care about that. But what I DO care about is moms. So if moms or women out there feel betrayed at all, that matters to me. Moms are incredibly important to me."

She is just looking for an excuse and it looks like the gullible are falling for it.
I don't blame her for not wanting to mess up her body with pregnancy. Most of the time your body is never really the same. You can lose the weight, but for the majority of women the stretchmarks never go away fully.
It's her choice, but she should just be honest and not make up b.s. excuses for her comment.

They totally twisted what it was that she said, and even if she didn't have any health issues and didn't want to have kids, thats her business. That's the problem with people today they hear what they want to hear when people talk. She never said it the way they are making out to be. I love Jillian and hope to meet her one day.

tracy said...oh for the love of god leave the poor lady alone. reporters and paparatzi only woryy about a good story and not the person that they are taking out of context. yes while famous people are famous we shouldn't need to know that stuff. that is private and quite honestly the reporter taking the story needs some ethics. stars getting arrested and in trouble for hitting paparatzi and such i clap for them because they breath down their necks constantly. just because someone is famous it shouldn't intefer with their privacy and they should be asked fist before their pics are snapped and rumors and such get spread around. why should we as get upset at what was miconstrued? who cares? would you want someone to take everything out of context that you say for a juicly story to further their career and yes people gets them more money. shows like tmz and such are full of bull and i think that when they are in public fair game if they wish their pics to be taken but if they ask to left alone their privacy should be respected. i don't care whos dating who and i don't care who said what everyone is intiltled to thier opinion just like these blogs everyone has their opinion and it should jsut be that no more no less. and if someone got upset over what she said then they need to get a life no seriously if she don't want to have kids she should have to have them just because of something someone asked her. its not because she is famous? now come on. get over it. i did just like that and quite frankly anyone who thinks she is selfish should take a good look at themselves first.

Shanna said...I don't believe her. I think if she was telling the truth she would have said I don't want to have one due to fertility issues. I think she's just making these statements now to save face. Go back and read some of her interviews and things she's said and you'll see what I mean. And don't say I don't have sympathy for women undergoing problems with fertility etc. I had them and surgeries for years myself.

Greg said...I don't care. I'm sick of these times when someone will take one comment from an interview, publish it through a negative lens, and suddenly, someone is having to apologize and explain what they meant. Who out there could stand the scrutiny of every word they utter being published and magnified to a point where people are led to believe they know you. All based on one comment. Not to mention that these things are taken out of context, or that people are often misquoted. It's sad. The public should attempt to use a little more common sense. Oh, but wait.....that would mean they'd have to think for themselves.

Ellen Garner said...Baloney!! I heard Jillian reply to a caller on Jillian's radio show who said she ( the caller) was afraid to get pregnant because of what childbirth would do to her figure. Jillian said that she didn't blame the caller, since she, Jillian, felt the same way. This endometriosis ploy didn't even come up and had no relevance to this conversation!! I did not misconstrue the meaning of this dialog between Jillian and the caller!!

Bar said...First of all, I don't think she has to defend herself for not wanting to be pregnant or give birth. It's her body and many women feel the exact same way! Many women don't even want children ever and why is that so wrong? It is their choice, period. Doesn't mean other women can't have as many kids as they wish - but why put that on all other women? It is like the whole Jennifer Aniston thing. She is 41 and all we hear is, when is she going to have a baby?! Look, she would have one by now if she really wanted it - she doesn't. I do doubt that Jillian would want to be pregnant. So? Why is that anyone else's business - even if her reason was that she didn't want to ruin her figure.

Marie said...I was born with spina bifida and use a wheelchair. I am almost 31 but made up my mind about 5 years ago to adopt 2 or 3 older children. Not only do I want nothing to do with pregnancy, childbirth and post partum depression, the PHYSICAL responsibility of babies/toddlers does not interest me. That said, I've been with Jillian all the way. There is no 'need' to create new life when there is already plenty here to choose from and love. Birth is NOT superior to adoption! Your children are yours, birthed or adopted.

littlenemis07 said...Who care if she doesn't want to have kids because it could kill her, or because she doesn't want to ruin her fab body. What's so wrong with that. I don't want to have kids until I reach a certain weight, that way when I do get pregnant and if I gain like 40-50 lbs I can look like I do now. So what if she doesn't want to have kids and get fat, it's her business. I bet the same people bitching are the same ones who support abortion

Kathy said...People that have never had endo metriosis can never understand the pain and discomfort as well as the polycystic ovaris. I can remember times during my cycles where the pain was so bad I was actually dragging my leg. I never thought about becoming pregnant because I didn't think that I could but I have a son that turned 27 last month. Jillian you are an awesome women and don't worry about some crackpot taking something out of context. Those of us that watch you know the kind of woman that you are.
