Lesbian Who Sued Over Prom Date Transfers Schools

Constance McMillen told The Associated Press on Thursday that she now attends a high school in Jackson, about 180 miles from Itawamba Agricultural High School in Fulton.
McMillen filed a federal lawsuit against the Itawamba County School District in March over the district's decision to cancel the prom rather than allow her to bring her girlfriend. Afterward, McMillen said she faced hostility.
She won't say which school she now attends, but she plans to graduate June 2.
Members of a fundamentalist church from Kansas say they'll protest the Itawamba graduation Saturday because they think parents didn't teach their children to condemn homosexuality.

bill said...Constance you DIDN'T do the right thing. You ruined the party for the entire school district and the next generation of prom goers all because of your selfishness. You ought to be ashamed of yourself but I don't think shame is in your lexicon of values.
You did do the right thing in transferring however

Rick said...I agree with the people here. You are not a person deserving of the same rights and privileges of majority because you are in the minority. Love and marriage is what the majority tells you it is. You have no right to love who you fall in love with. Additionally, you should probably only deserve three-fifths of a person’s rights because you are different that the rest of us. I don’t care about what the rest of the bible says about virgins on their wedding day or disrespectful children. I am going to selectively pick a few lines from the bible and live my life according to them because I agree with them only. It makes me feels good not to be open minded and follow others like me. I will also die happy believing I will go to heaven and meeting God one day. On that day, I just hope I have a good answer as to why I only believed and enforced so few of the lines in the bible and not all of them.

Melinda said...@Rick- so it is ok to discriminate against someone JUST because they are different from you? That makes it ok to discriminate against not only someone who is blind, or deaf, or gay, or a woman (I assume you are a man, in the general sense of the word), but also against someone who has a different hair or eye color than you, or someone who belongs to a different religion or political party than you. I have news for you, sir- you can keep on dreaming of that happy place that you consider heaven- cause IF you do get there you are not gonna like what you see...

Lynn said...I agree with you! The problem today is too many citizens were given rights they didn't earn and have come to believe they hold some "special priviledges" over others in this country! BTW, if it weren't for abolition, suffrage, labor movement, or civil rights; blacks, women, and children would still be treated like CHATTEL, property of white men with no rights! Any American who tries to deny the Constitutional Rights of another should give up their citizenship, period! You wanna be bigot, fine be a bigot, but when it comes to following the very laws that not only PROTECT YOU but GRANT YOU the right to Freedom, Liberty and the pursuit of [personal] Happiness is where the line in the sand is drawn!
Hate breeds hate and until these mental midgets stop trying to control humans, this country will continue to regress. FYI, millions of gays PAY TAXES that support our schools and this country so stop being so darned greedy! Geesh.

Rick's comment was (clearly, to intelligent people..) sarcastic. For those of you who did not pick up on the sarcasm... where are your handlers?! So ignorant.. and you expect people to hold any weight to your comments?
On a slight tangent...
THE SAME GOES FOR PEOPLE WHO FEEL THE NEED TO TYPE LIKE THIS. WHEN I SEE THIS I WILL AUTO-IGNORE ANYTHING YOU SAY. IF YOU ARE TOO IGNORANT TO HIT CAPS LOCKS, YOU ARE TOO IGNORANT TO HAVE INTELLIGENT THOUGHTS!!!!11111

Mei said...Gee the twit caused the problems in the first place and now that she has stirred up the stinkpot she does not feel safe? What an idiot!! BTW to be a so called strong woman she needs to first learn to follow the rules. I don't see that she has done that at all. It is all about her and her way of life. What about the others rights and way of life? Perhaps she should just move to SanFran. to feel safe....

I didn't pick up on the sarcasm until the line "I am going to selectively pick a few lines from the bible and live my life according to them because I agree with them only." Whats with the low ranking? Did everyone miss subtle sarcasm completely or got it and just didn't find it funny?

lolabull said...SOME people very well be "bigots" and "homophobes", while others simply do not agree that homosexuality is "normal" behaviour? Like me for instance, I have no problem with this girl or any other gay person, I just don't believe that being "gay" is a birth-trait or any other natural phenomonon, and is more likely a mental issue. So what? That doesn't make me intolerant of gay people, and on the contrary......many gay people seem less tolerant of others themselves? What gives?

ralonne said...I agree Rollando, These religious freaks are just homophobes with their own issues, so just ignore their comments; they have no relevance here. What homophobes do not seem to understand is that we've all lived before (and will again as we try to evolve to the perfection that is God) and, sometimes, when one transitions from one life to another, memories from that previous life carry over. Hence, if you were a certain gender in that previous life, it stands to reason that one's sexual interests may also carry over into the new life and that's where being 'gay' comes into play. It's not some sexual or deviant abberration as so many try to make it out to be. No one WANTS to be gay per se – it’s something one is usually born with.

Kayla said...Let's just say it's true (that homosexuals have been around since the beginning of mankind). So have murderers, rapists, thieves, and scam artists. I'm not saying homosexuals are equal with these things, BUT if these are also natural behaviors that have existed since the beginning of mankind, who are we to punish people for them today?
Yes, I personally do not believe homosexuality is right. That probably makes me more hated than a world of gays. But I'm not a homophobe! Not agreeing with the behavior does NOT mean I'm intimidated by, afraid of, or hateful of people who practice it. If you wanted to bring up namecalling, well... God Bless Free Speech.
