Since when did "smoke 'em if you got 'em" apply to toddlers?
Three-year-old Ya Wen of China started smoking cigarettes and drinking beer after she was hit by a speeding van and spent five days in a coma, the New York Daily News reports. The girl's mother, Gao Wen, says her daughter's personality changed after the accident and she started acting like an adult.
"She likes drinking," Gao Wen tells the Yangcheng Evening Post. "Three glasses of beer is no problem to her."
Her mother also caught Ya Wen smoking her dad's cigarettes in the bathroom. She began stealing cigarettes from a store until the owner let her have them on credit, assuming they were for her dad.
Ya Wen's family lives in a shelter in Huizhou, China, and collects and sells garbage for cash. Her father recently gave up smoking to set a good example for Ya Wen, but she still cries for them, according to the Daily News.

been there said...Ive read some of the post on this little girl and sorry to say that a brain injury is something that we we will never understand sorry to say,
I have TBI Tramatic Brain injury, at the age of 20,
before the accident i was an easy going person I never drank or broke the law in any way, but after this accident, i was a changed person. and for the worst may i add,
bad tempered drank day and night, and as for moods well up and down usually angry person, done things I though i would never do but i did it any way, ended up in jail many times not knowing what i have done.
Yrs later i again was hit in the head and again changes begain. I put down the bottle and never craved it again, and was a very passionate person 1 could say back to my old self
but i very much contain myself, and be aware of what could come back to life if i let it, or have another head trama.
I very feel much for the little chinese girl she will have a life of hell to pay because of a hit in the head, please dont blame the parents for her actions because they have no control over it any more than she does now,
please dont judge until youve been there or done research on tramatic brain injury and the personallity changes or chriminal behavior of it

John said...Hey, we all get to make choices in life.
If that is what she wants to do, you have no say in the matter.
It is her body and her 'CHOICE'. Other people have no right to
make choices for her.

jolly gin said...John, it is her body, but... she is a toddler. No, it is her parents that have the say of what she can do with her body, not the "toddler". Have you ever heard of the word dicipline? The parents should not have these items available to her. How in the world could a child be left alone in a store and allowed to charge these items at her age. The parents should be accountable. The store owner should be ashamed to let a child charge anything, much less adult items. Sure you don't want to start her on birth control?

When people have a near death experience, they often 'see the light' and go through the tunnel to the Spirit World, Heaven, Coaybey - whatever you want to call it. They will revisit who they truly are... who their soul has been in the past. If more people understood the reality of past lives, they would know that this explains so much... ie, children's 'imaginary friends', the prodigal children who play piano, recite speeches, have knowledge beyond their (this life) experience, etc.

Parents are supposed to guide their children in making good choices in life, not stand idly by and watch them destroy themselves!

Talun Thomas said...Has anyone considered soul transference? It is hard to accept I know, however when one is near death or in a coma a soul that is a drift so to speak can enter the mind of another. It is much more likely to happen to a child because there minds have no substantial build up of road blocks in the brain due to aging and wear and tear due to age. This girl can now have the soul of an aged woman or man that used to smoke and drink. I have seen it happen. Rather or not people are ready to accept this the proof is in the little girl and how she is no longer a child but now someone who wishes to live again in her body.

Freida said...Could it be that they are worried about daily survival? You obviously have no idea what life is like in a thrid world country for the very poor. Suggest that you climb off your high horse and try to figure it out and better still understand that the story is not so simple as a spoiled kid that the parents are allowing to drink and smoke. There is much more to the story then the few paragraphs here. Did you not read about accident, coma and change in personality and behavior??

john said...Isn't the issue in this story one of changed personality after a traumatic accident?? Is it transmigration, a brain dysfunction, disassociated personality? The question here ISN'T about the child being ALLOWED (her paretns are shocked too and obviously her father did something in an effort to stop the behavior) the issue is WHAT IS CAUSING IT???? 3 year olds rarely have a tolerance for such things much less desire...

Donna said...She has choices? She's 3 yrs old! Sure, she can "choose" an outfit, but if she "chooses" to smoke and drink you just sit back and let her because it's her choice???????? Are you crazy??????? Again, she's 3 yrs old!!!!!!!!!!!! Personality change? So what! The answer is NO, you cannot smoke and you cannot drink! It's called PARENTING!!!!!!!!

Carlene said...The "terrible accident" is that her parents are ALLOWING her to smoke and drink. They are despicable role models for allowing a THREE YEAR OLD to do these things. Smack her little bottom or put her in time-out or whatever it is they do and simply tell her NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sunday said...I think the other key word here is the accident - seems to me she might have had a brain injury which is causing her to mimick an adult at such a young age. I saw her on the news last night. She acts like a 30 yr old in a 3 yr olds body! This was not your typical monkey-see, monkey-do mimicking. I believe she has other medical problems contributing to this as well.

KAREN said...I TOTALLY AGREE. THIS CHILD WOULD NEVER MISS SOMETHING SHE NEVER HAD. I DO NOT BELIEVE HER "PERSONALITY" CHANGE. HOW DOES A 3 YEAR OLD KNOW HOW TO LIGHT A CIGARETTE? WHO IS THE PARENT/ADULT HERE. JUST SOUNDS LIKE LAZINESS TO ME. IT IS EASIER TO GIVE IN TO HER THAN DISCIPLINE HER. IT IS CHILD ABUSE!!!
