Welcome Tenley, Harper, Castiel and Bentley: The Hottest Baby Names of 2010
Filed under: Babies, In The News, Baby Names, Research Reveals: Babies, New In Pop Culture
With half of the year behind us, it's time to check in with our friends at BabyNameWizard.com for a baby name trend report. We know that Jacob and Isabella are the reigning king and queen of American baby names. But what's coming up next?
To answer that question, BabyNameWizard.com tracked the names that hundreds of thousands of name-searching parents looked for most. They've given us an exclusive peek at the hottest names of 2010 so far -- the names that rose the fastest from a year ago. The fast risers might not be common now, but we're likely to hear more from them in the years to come.
The #1 fastest rising girl's name is Tenley, and that's just the tip of the iceberg. Kinley, Tinsley and Kinsley also made the top 20. Together, they point to a signature sound for the year's baby girls. Also keep an eye out for Everly, which placed two different spellings in the top 20.
For boys, the country's love affair with "-n" names is set to continue. More than half of the hottest rising boy's names end in that super-popular letter. Look for a fresh crop of surname names, too, especially luxurious ones like Sterling, St. John and Bentley.
The top 20 fastest rising boy's and girl's names are below. If you're afraid that your favorite names are rising too fast, check out the list of secret hit baby names that are more popular than they appear, and these appealing alternatives to the new hit names.

peggy sue said...she was using it in contrast, dummy. Do you want Maria? OR Sookie? Only ONE name is normal. And, she's right. I'd want the Maria defending my life, although the "Sookie" probably had more practice in having to defend themselves! The idea is that Maria probably had less issues to deal with, and more confidence - time to devote to her learning. Sookie probably spent alot of time wondering why she was saddled with such a name that would cause so many people to have pre-conceived ideas about her because of it. And people do. Think about it. Without knowing them, and just by pure guess, is a girl named "Peppermint" a doctor? ....... or a stripper?

carole said...Where the heck did these ridiculous names come from? Why must there be so much weirdness? If my parents had given ME a name like NAVI, TINSLEY or LUX (or any of those stupid names) I'd be in court as soon as I could to change it !! Too strange!! Please use your head when you name your baby. It can affect the child for life.

I went to school with a girl named Sooki many years ago. She was adopted from Korea, but spelled hers Suki.
Many of these names are cute, but some are horrendous! Parents have mercy!

smith_brett_e said...Those names are just ridiculous. I don't think I'd let a kid in our house whose name I couldn't pronounce or put into context as the name of a human being. Half of them look like the name a three year old would whip-up for a goldfish. "Momma, I wanna call him Sookie." Bleh...
