Welcome Tenley, Harper, Castiel and Bentley: The Hottest Baby Names of 2010
Filed under: Babies, In The News, Baby Names, Research Reveals: Babies, New In Pop Culture
With half of the year behind us, it's time to check in with our friends at BabyNameWizard.com for a baby name trend report. We know that Jacob and Isabella are the reigning king and queen of American baby names. But what's coming up next?
To answer that question, BabyNameWizard.com tracked the names that hundreds of thousands of name-searching parents looked for most. They've given us an exclusive peek at the hottest names of 2010 so far -- the names that rose the fastest from a year ago. The fast risers might not be common now, but we're likely to hear more from them in the years to come.
The #1 fastest rising girl's name is Tenley, and that's just the tip of the iceberg. Kinley, Tinsley and Kinsley also made the top 20. Together, they point to a signature sound for the year's baby girls. Also keep an eye out for Everly, which placed two different spellings in the top 20.
For boys, the country's love affair with "-n" names is set to continue. More than half of the hottest rising boy's names end in that super-popular letter. Look for a fresh crop of surname names, too, especially luxurious ones like Sterling, St. John and Bentley.
The top 20 fastest rising boy's and girl's names are below. If you're afraid that your favorite names are rising too fast, check out the list of secret hit baby names that are more popular than they appear, and these appealing alternatives to the new hit names.

Alicia said...Ahahahaha Navi? Sookie? The gamers are reproducing and Charlaine Harris fans are on the rise. I love it!
And I've always loved the name Sterling for a little boy. So cute and, apparently until this year, unique. I love different names and am so glad there wasn't a single "traditional" name on the list. Beautiful, beautiful names.

Teresa said...Sterling is an old name and a beautiful name. One of my clients name was Sterling he passed away a few years back.....he was 86 years old. Just like the name Morgan, Ike, Hiram, Samuel, Wyatt, Levi, Carroll, Beatrice, Edna, Floy, Violet, Vada, Josphine, Nora, Elonora, etc. If you want a cool name go back in your family tree and look for one.

Emily said...Calm down Alicia. This list is not the most popular names, thank goodness. It is supposedly the fastest growing list of names but the author never gave the manner of measuring that. In any case I have to agree with the folks who think this is a list of the most god awful names you could hang on a child!

nt said...This is not a list of the most common names, it is a list of the "hottest names of 2010 so far -- the names that rose the fastest from a year ago." That is why traditional names aren't in the list... They can't be due to the type of list this is.

Tamara said...To all of you who think these new names are cool: You obviously never had to grow up with a name that everyone mispronounced or mispelled! And mine isn't even that unusual, but I am constantly amazed by how wrong people can get it. Now just think of what that does to A KID! Do your kids a favor and name them REAL names that people can say, people can spell, and don't have to decipher to figure out. Here's an excellent example: we named our son Evan Samuel. Everyone knows what his name is, there's no funny nick-names, and no weird spellings. ;-D
