I formed a band of friends to maintain a table to sit at lunch since school was over populated and fought off any one who tried to steal it.
Our group took in people who got picked on constantly.

I know kids move more often nowadays, but back in the 1960s it was more of a challenge!

There were 5 of us kids so we made our own fun. We loved to explore the new towns with our mom. My dad also made sure we hit every civil war battlefield that we were anywhere near. I didn't know what a blessing it was at the time but I look back on it and I am very grateful!

She had a HUGE magnolia tree where we would climb to the top and play that we were on a MASSIVE ship with water surrounding us. I was the ship captian and we had first mates with all our team on board, amaginary of course!!!!! We would take people captive and some times we would be on rescue missions! When a thunderstorm was coming it made it so much more fun and realistic, like we would be trapped out in the sea! O to be a child again! Now I try and have that same fun with my 8 yr old daughter. In hopes she will be able to have the same amagination that I used to have! Nowadays kids are stuck on the computer or in front of the t.v....... we as parents should incorporate more active and outdoor activities in our childrens lives.

Jenny said...My greatest childhood adventure would have to be nights out with my Dad. Since he's passed, I like to remember the great childhood memories I had with him. We used to go into the woods and make smores and he'd tell me some of his childhood stories. Those the most important childhood memories that I will pass on to my baby.

We were told to stay on a certain side of the bridge overpass, and, being kids, we ignored that rule. Only learned later that there was dangerous metal on the side we traveled on which could have deflated our raft and left us stranded.

This one path led out to a lake but it was up really high and there were ropes with waist secures so people could scale the cliffs to see the paintings. My parents wouldn't let me go alone so my big brother tied his rope to mine and helped me down the cliff then back up. It was such an amazing discovery we made together. We felt like Indiana Jones! My brother is like my best friend and seeing the cliff paintings together was so special I will always remember it.

Eric said...My greatest childhood adventure would have to be around 10 years old when the family and I went down to a state park in PA for family reunion. That trip stands out because it was the first time that three (of four) of us children were allowed to "explore" the park on our own so long as we all stayed together. We managed to stay safe and out of trouble... just barely!

My greatest adventure was the summer we met a group of loggers at a camp on one of the islands. They took us all for a ride in their humungous truck and let us help cook dinner at their mess hall. It was a very unique experience. My grandfather seemed to find all of the unusual places to go, leading his "all girl crew" through some very special times. God bless him.
