In Theaters: The Other Guys
Starring Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg, "The Other Guys" is a buddy comedy about two mismatched cops partnered up to bring down a bad guy. The violence and raunchy stuff are played for laughs, but the film is still too mature for young audiences. Rated PG-13, iffy for kids 13-15
DVD: Diary of a Wimpy Kid
Jeff Kinney's beloved book series gets the live-action Hollywood treatment in "Diary of a Wimpy Kid." While Greg Heffley tries desperately to be popular, he inadvertently pushes his best friend Rowley away. The humor is decidedly sixth-grade, but the message is a good one: It's our choices that make us who we are. Rated PG, OK for kids 9+
TV: Monster Fish
The National Geographic Channel takes viewers on a journey around the world in search of giant freshwater fish in "Monster Fish." Zeb Hogan is an engaging and enthusiastic host as he explores the natural environment of these underwater creatures and explains how humans are changing it. With a focus on conservation and ecology, the show urges viewers to be more conscious of their impact on the planet. Rated TV-PG, OK for kids 10+
Books: Henry in Love
A picture book written and illustrated by Peter McCarty, "Henry in Love" is a sweet tale about love, friendship and generosity. Henry's world is a happy place and becomes even more so when he shares something special with someone he cares about. OK for kids 4+
Music: Teenage Dream by Katy Perry
While the lyrics to Katy Perry's latest single, "Teenage Dream," are fairly clean, the message itself isn't exactly kid-friendly. Perry sings about falling in love and how overwhelming the feeling can be. Unfortunately, this love makes her want to get drunk on the beach, get a motel room and go "all the way" with the object of her affection. Iffy for kids 13-14
Web: Sticky Drama
A social networking site that thrives on negativity, "Sticky Drama" seems to have been created for the sole purpose of giving teens a place to bully one another. Mocking, harassing and gossiping about other users are the primary activities here and the tone is often violent and threatening. With no parental controls or moderation, this is definitely a site to be avoided. Not for kids.
Games: Little League World Series 2010
For PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, "Little League World Series 2010" takes players through an entire baseball season right up to the big finale. Along the way, there are mini-games to play and rewards to be earned for improving skills. It may be rendered in cartoon style, but this is serious -- and fun -- baseball. Rated E, OK for kids 7+
