Baby Shower Themes: Princesses
If ever there is a time for ordinary citizens to be treated like royalty, it's when a woman is pregnant. So, why not celebrate a special mom-to-be by throwing a princess-themed baby shower?
Since there are so many baby shower themes to choose from, it's important to pick one that matches the expectant mother's personality. And how do you know if a princess-themed baby shower will be appreciated? Does she adore pink? Are Disney classics such as "Cinderella," "Sleeping Beauty" and "Snow White" among her favorite movies? Does she love romantic books and fairy tales?
If you're unsure, another helpful way to know if a princess baby shower theme will work is to ask the expectant mother how she wants to decorate her baby girl's nursery or by looking at her baby registry choices. If she is planning a princess-themed nursery, a princess baby shower theme is an obvious choice.
Once you've selected the baby shower theme, it's time to start planning.
Invitations: Invitations set the tone of your party, and it's easy to make your own using scrapbook paper and glitter pens. Many craft stores carry princess or "once upon a time" scrapbook paper packs perfect for your homemade invitations. If you're not particularly crafty or just need to save time, there are many pre-made invitations with princess baby shower themes available. Amy Adele offers a simple princess crown party invitation for birthdays, which can be customized for baby showers. And Tiny Prints carries a lovely Once Upon a Time baby shower invitation with a sweet storybook style.
Decorations: Decorate your party room in soft pastel shades of pinks and purples. Create your own floral centerpieces or save money by using inexpensive pink princess tiaras or pink helium balloons as centerpieces. For a creative centerpiece idea, ask each guest to bring a fairy tale-themed stuffed animal such as a unicorn, frog prince, teddy bear dressed as a princess or fairy doll to the event. Stuffed animals make excellent centerpieces, and they can be reused in the new baby's nursery, too.
It's easy to find confetti that coordinates with baby shower themes. Sprinkle shiny princess confetti on tabletops to add some sparkle. Confetti is available in the shape of princess crowns at party supply stores, or make your own using a scrapbook paper punch (available at craft stores) and glittery pink paper.
Entertainment and Eats: Music and food are as important as decorations. If the mom-to-be is a Disney fan, play a mix of classic Disney princess songs. Otherwise, Tchaikovsky's "Sleeping Beauty" is perfect background music. Pink drinks -- think fruit punch or pink lemonade -- and fancy pink mocktails (cocktails without alcohol) add to the fun. Raspberry sherbet and ginger ale make a festive pink party punch, as well.
Party Favors: Coordinate favors with your princess baby shower theme to thank your guests for coming. Homemade sugar cookies are an affordable option. Purchase crown- and castle-shaped cookie cutters at a craft store and decorate the cookies with pink icing and silver dragees. Wrap each cookie in cellophane and tie with pink ribbon. Another option is to make homemade princess crown lollipops using white or pink chocolate. Craft stores normally carry a wide selection of candy molds, which can be used for chocolate lollipops, or you can purchase a mold online to match any baby shower theme.
With a little ingenuity, you can throw a wonderful princess-themed baby shower that won't cost a king's ransom.
