If there's anything more fun than shopping for yourself, it's shopping for your baby. But while some of the designer baby clothes out there are beyond adorable, they're also beyond expensive.

A pair of classic designer shoes that will last you forever -- or a Kate Spade diaper bag -- might be justifiable for an occasional splurge, but a baby outfit that will fit for a few months to a year, tops? Sorry, for must of us, that's simply off the map financially.

But there's no reason your baby's style needs to suffer. Since the wearability window is so short, designer baby clothes often can be found secondhand, but barely worn. And while consignment stores and thrift shops certainly can be treasure troves for local brick-and-mortar shopping, with sale and online consignment sites popping up as fast your your baby's feet seem to be growing, you also can treasure-hunt online for designer baby clothes, both gently used and brand new.

Here's a look at some baby fashion favorites.

Members-only designer discount shopping on ideeli can result in saving up to 80 percent on designer baby clothes. Here's how it works: Become a member by invitation, or by clicking on "join now" near the bottom of the home page. Sales start daily at 12 p.m. EST and run for 40 hours. Basic membership is free, but premium "First Row" members have access to exclusive sales and get an early jump on regular sales. Popular items go fast, but it's definitely worth looking into if you want new designer baby clothes without designer price tags.

Baby Outfitter
An online consignment shop, Baby Outfitter carries a large revolving stock of new and gently used designer baby clothes from lines including Gymboree, Little Me, Amy Coe and Tommy Hilfiger. Find gently used Polo items for around $10, with most other labels going for less. Shop the store like any online retailer, but keep in mind that items are listed one at a time, and when they're gone, they're gone.

Frogs Frills and Daffodils

Anywhere you shop on, you'll find good prices on new designer baby clothing by Bon Bebe, Fleur de Chine, Mary's Little Lamb and Frogs Frills and Daffodil's own label, among others, with many of the boutique items in the $20 to $30 range. Click on "Bargains Bargains Bargains!" to go to the site's Outlet Store, with close-outs on brand new items for as little as $2.

You know about the Goodwill thrift stores where you can shop for gently used and new designer baby clothes, but did you know you also can shop Goodwill online? Through, donated items are listed as online auctions with a set time limit. Many items are new (look for "NWT" in the title for items that are new with tags, "NWoT" for new items without tags) and start at under $2. As with any auction, buyers bid until there is a winner, but the competition isn't as hot as on some other auction sites. As a bonus, all profits go toward Goodwill Industries' education and job programs.
