Hey, New York Fashion Week fans, we've got a pint-sized style scoop: Mini is the new black.

That's right, mini models will be taking their positions on the catwalk as the twice-annual fashion shows hit the Big Apple later this week, and the first petitePARADE marches forward, showcasing the latest in clothing for kids.

"We decided to create petitePARADE, Kids Fashion Week, because of the exponential growth of the children's market in the past few years and the lack of an adequate outlet to showcase kids' products," Tiziana Indelicato, co-founder of the event, tells ParentDish. "Kids' fashion does exist and we feel like the market is ready to finally recognize it."

Scheduled to take place Sept. 10-11 at the Metropolitan Pavilion in New York City before an invite-only crowd of media,
buyers, young fashion mavens and celeb-u-tots, looks for spring 2011 are set to be shown from designers including Roberto Cavalli, Sonya Rykiel, Simonetta, Charabia, Inca Girl, Monnalisa, Miss Grant, Love Therapy and Baby Angel by Fiorucci.

Indelicato, who launched Gigi & Zaza, an e-commerce boutique for children's shoes earlier this year, says it has been refreshing to see the children's fashion market get some recognition recently, and that the event will feature designs from some of the most talented fashion houses in the industry.

"We wanted to be able to work with different companies from around the world to showcase the different facets of kids' fashion," she tells ParentDish. "It's not about price point or a specific look. It's about bringing great brands together with a common denominator: fun."

Kids at the event will get to show off their own fashion senses, as well, designing T-shirts that will be auctioned off at the shows. Proceeds will be donated to Soaringwords, an online support network for sick children and their families.

So, should style watchers be on the lookout for more petitePARADEs to come?

"Absolutely," Indelicato tells ParentDish. "There are so many brands out there that could not make this season but would love to be on board for the next petitePARADE."
