In Theaters: "Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole"
When their kingdom is threatened, two young Tyto owlets seek the assistance of a mysterious band of warriors in "Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole." An adaptation of the book series by Kathryn Lasky, the film features lots of combat violence and a few bloodless deaths, all of which are made much more intense by the visually stunning 3-D effects. Rated PG, OK for kids 8+
DVD: "Harriet the Spy: Blog Wars"
Featuring the young sleuth made popular in author Louise Fitzhugh's book series, "Harriet the Spy: Blog Wars" finds the heroine competing for a coveted writing job at her school. To win the spot, she compromises her principles and loses the respect of her family and friends. Not rated, OK for kids 7+
TV: "Fish Hooks"
A new animated series on Disney Channel, "Fish Hooks" features three fish friends navigating the tricky waters of high school. The quirky show uses humor to address issues such as the importance of believing in yourself, respecting others and being a good friend. Rated TV-G, OK for kids 6+
Books: "As Easy as Falling Off the Face of the Earth"
Written and illustrated by Lynne Rae Perkins, "As Easy as Falling Off the Face of the Earth" is an adventure tale featuring a teen boy who has been separated from his family due to an incredible string of bad luck. In searching for them, he discovers his own inner strength and is ultimately transformed by the experience. OK for kids 12+
Music: "A Year Without Rain" by Selena Gomez
A single release from her upcoming album, "A Year Without Rain," features the Disney star singing about the unbearable experience of not being near the boy she loves. The lyrics may be clean, but lines such as "I need you by my side, don't know how I'll survive," aren't exactly empowering to young girls. OK for kids 10+
Games: "Club Penguin Game Day"
For Nintendo Wii, "Club Penguin Game Day" lets players design a penguin avatar and compete in wacky Olympic-style games including sack races, snowball fights, dance-offs and more. Players can go solo or team up to complete, earning coins to purchase new costumes for their penguins. Rated E, OK for kids 7+
Web: It's My Pony
An educational site for horse lovers, "It's My Pony" is jam-packed with information about all things equestrian. Through quizzes, games, videos and more, visitors can learn everything there is to know about horses and meet like-minded new friends. Fully-paid members can upload videos and art and compete in competitions. OK for kids 10+
