Hot for teacher!
Melissa Petro, a 30-year-old elementary school art teacher in the Bronx, has admitted that she was a prostitute, the New York Post reports.
Petro revealed her salacious past in an essay on The Huffington Post this month, where she writes, "From October 2006 to January 2007, I accepted money in exchange for sexual services I provided to men I met online in what was then called the 'erotic services' section of Craigslist.org."
Petro used her real name and picture and identified herself as a "former sex worker, researcher, writer, educator and feminist."
Some parents are expressing their outrage that their children were being taught by a former sex worker.
"She's not a good role model. I do not want my daughters to find out about this," says Yocelyn Quezada, the mother of two of Petro's students, "and I do not want my daughters to be around that kind of person."
The Department of Education's press office says Petro had been reassigned to administrative duties pending an investigation, the Post reports.
Petro declined to speak with the Post, but it's clear from her essay that she knew what was at stake. She writes, "I hope to never again make the choice to trade sex for cash even as I risk my current job and social standing to speak out for an individual's right to do so."

Green Hills said...If it's my child....I sure as hell am judging who is influencing her...it's my responsibility to do so. Who cares what this woman did, but it's up to me who has access to my child. And if I know there is a different influence than I want for my child being pushed onto her, I certainly will complain...loudly and until that influence is removed. PERIOD. It's called Parental Responsibility...something I see sadly lacking in a lot of parents.

Marti said...Elwood: If this woman didn't want to be judged, then she shouldn't have published an essay for the world to see. What did she think was going to happen? As others have said, it would be one thing if she admitted to the mistake and expressed regrets, but this crazy is proud of her prostitution and is in support of legalizing it. Proud of being a lawbreaker? I don't want you teaching my kids. And for me, that's the clincher. I don't want someone who defies the law to influence my children.

Of course people have the "right" to do what they wish with their bodies---that is not an issue---I surely wouldn't flush my job down the tubes to make a stand about it. I don't believe for a moment that she did this to make a social stand. She did it for attention and a cathartic release. Way to try and drag "feminism" into it too. Thanks a lot.

You ppl are so hung up in looking at ppl faults u dont realize you are not perfect role models either!!! If you feel like you are a "PERFECT" parent and role model keep them home with you then!!!! szb said...Michael Vick is paid his millions by a private organization and if people feel that strongly about his past actions they can not buy tickets to the games or not watch him on TV. She is paid by tax money which people in the community are forced to pay and kids are forced to go to school. Thus, there is a big difference.
In the case of Micheal Vick the market can regulate what is acceptable past behavior in the case of a teacher the School Board has to and their decisions should reflect the will of community.

Why should her right to act any way she pleases trump my right to choose who influences my child? Therein is the issue. The parents, not the school boards or the government, should take responsibility for what their children are taught.

joella said...As a parent, I think our young people are in the sad state that they are because their parents want them to believe they lived the perfect life. Never TRIED drugs, drunk alcohol, etc... Any of you ever had a boyfriend/girlfriend whom you had sex with and he/she gave you gifts and/or money? Guess what? You were a prostitute whether you got married or not!

WTF said...I can't believe you're a parent. As a parent I would never flaunt my indiscretions to my children. How does this set a good example for them?! I try to set an example by my actions that they can see. And as for the gift/relationship part of your comment, getting and giving gifts from/to your significant other does not equate to prostitution. It seems that you don't know the difference.
