Inspired by J.K. Rowling's "Harry Potter" series, many parents in India are giving their children owls, according to published reports. The birds are obtained illegally, and some are sacrificed and used for medicinal purposes.
In Rowling's books, owls are used as messengers. Harry Potter's owl is named Hedwig.

Alicia said...Owls: wild birds of prey. As in talons, sharp beaks and undomesticated killing instincts. They're beautiful animals, but those are not great qualities for a childhood pet. Owls belong in the wild or in a wildlife rescue/reserve.
