maybe you should move to china or some other communist country where they tell you when and how to breathe and also they can tell you how many kids you can have. The show gives the same message over and over. They are not liiving off the gorernment they are totally self supporting and they are responsible members of society. shame on you for thinking the government should be able to tell them how many children to have. If the government has no say whether or not you can have an abortion, then no one should tell them how many children to have.

In this day and age with dwindling resources, etc., people should be more considerate and not be so selfish as to add to the ever rapidly growing and soon overburdening world population. I applaud all those who ascribe to zero population growth - for that matter, why not negative population growth?

You said it, Gail. If it's simply confined to the Duggars (and they aren't the only Quiverfull family out there, unfortunately), the numbers will be horrifying. Twenty kids (Michelle has said she'll happily have another if that's what 'god' wants). All of them have said they can't wait to grow up and pop out babies just like Mom did. Even if they stop at HALF that's still TWO HUNDRED CHILDREN in the next generation. And if each of those two hundred decided to add to the 'army for Christ?'

I agree. The planet is getting fuller and fuller. There are so many kids that need homes and their are people starving. If they want so many kids, why don't they just adopt one already here.

Well, that's the legacy of mother Duggar to her daugthers: " open the legs and the TV shows will support you and your dozen + kids" plus the people will donate so much to you that you don't have to worry about it. Disgusting way of thinking from these religious freaks !

But isn't it wonderful that we live in America where we can chose to have a large number of children, a few children or no children at all! It really isn't all that difficult to raise a large family if you are frugal. In fact, many large families have a smaller carbon footprint that small families. The Duggars wear hand me downs, don't waste food, don't buy a lot of unnecessary items and don't waste a lot of money on entertainment. There are a whole lot of smaller families that could learn a lot about finance and conservation from them!

The Duggar family may not get welfare in the traditional sense but they still get substantial financial assistance from TLC. No one in this country is sitting home receiving welfare payments in return for breeding children. President Clinton put in to effect the welfare reform bill. It limited the time that anyone or family could get welfare payments to five years over a lifetime. No exceptions to the rule. In addition any family applying for welfare benefits must enroll in a welfare to WORK program.Children are placed in daycare as early as six weeks and the mother enters a mandatory training program. Once completed the welfare payments are stopped and she is given job placement assistance. Depending on her income like many Working Americans she may be able to get food stamps. Medicaid is income based so a mother may not qualify, but she may qualify like everyone else under the new health care reforms. Again i reiterate there is a five year limit over someone's lifetime to receive welfare benefits. Father's will face felony charges and be imprisoned if they don't pay child support, and it is enforced. The only people profiting off of being baby making machines in today's world, are these ultra conservative white Christian Americans. TLC is paying the Duggars to be baby making machines. There children sustain them in every way: they clean, cook, perform child care duties, do enormous amounts of laundry, clean their rooms, their parents rooms and function as school teachers; the "jurisdictions" never stop. To top it all off the children are providing the income to the family, without them their would be no show. I have never seen a tenant yet in these lucrative, money making rentals, they supposedly own. Those kids did not build that house, none of them could legally work at the time the house was under construction. There are child labor laws that also apply to the Duggar's. What they are doing to their children is child abuse and reprehensible, but because they are white, ultra conservative, Christian Republicans their behavior is glorified. They are the worse type of welfare recipients i have ever seen. If they are so independent they need to stop taking hundreds of thousands of dollars from TLC to simply have sex and produce offspring. This is the same thing people on welfare were once highly criticized for. All Michelle does is lay around, have sex and produce babies. A lot of her kids are on the verge of young adulthood and have no lives of their own. Some are young adults already and can't leave because they have to take care of this constantly growing family. Their oldest son is on baby number three, one ended in a miscarriage (NOT DUE TO THE USE OF BIRTH CONTROL ), and this third one is due in June. Why don't any of the other children have a life. I am sure they might want to go to college, pursue a career or start a family of their own. It is not fair to not allow the older children to have a life just like they did Josh, and use some sorry excuse that God just is not ready to send any of the other young adults a marriage partner. Even with that line of absurd thinking God doesn't have to give permission for the older children to go to college or pursue a career. Some of the girls have expressed an interest in nursing, teaching, missionary work, or just being stay at home mom's. All of this is being denied to them. They are even musically talented but none have enrolled in any college to pursue a career in music. There are plenty of conservative Cristian colleges. The Bates family have two children enrolled in college. The Bates girl is an extremely talented piano player and she is pursuing her musical interests. It seems that the Duggars only educated their children so they could have children who could take over Michelle"s home schooling duties. For the children who want to do missionary work they were given a two week trip abroad and that was it. One of the older girls who used to visit Josie in the hospital quite frequently, expressed an interest in nursing which was at first was encouraged by Michele, but now she just applies what she learned to take over the care of Josie. It was total grooming and manipulation by Michele to prepare her to take over the care of Josie. How are they supposed to meet a future life partner when their visits with other Christian families is so limited. When they do go out on family outings it is rarely age appropriate such as a recent visit to an amusement park where Jim Bob seem to be having most of the fun. That should be a clue that his kids are growing up and going on amusement rides is no longer amusing. It seemed like just another chore in which the older kids had to monitor the younger ones in a park filled with hundreds of people. When they recently allowed Jessa and Jinger to go to Chicago with a couple of the sisters from the Bates family, JimBob called them, while they were having a quiet grown up lunch so they could hear their siblings screaming in the background. It was obvious how embarrassed his daughters were. He was basically showing them that they were needed to hold down the fort because Michele was so overwhelmed. One of the toddlers brought a book to Michelle while she was washing a dish and her response was to send the kid away saying that children must learn patience. It was obvious that with just a few of the children at home without Jessa and Jinger she was overwhelmed. Jana was upstairs taking care of Josie. The other elder girl was probably hiding. In one episode one of the little girls had such a severe fall that it required the attention of a plastic surgeon. I think the undivided attention she received from Jim-Bob and Michelle at the hospital was about the most one on one she has received since the birth of Josie. After she was done and came home she was basically forgotten, with the exception of concern shown by one of her brothers, and a nice camera men who had her talk on camera about her boo-boo. How sad. These children are not being treated like they should be as beautiful and wonderful gifts from God, a gift isn't received just to be put up and forgotten, or to transfer the care of that gift to others, only waiting for more gifts to come. Their children are gifts but they are quickly forgotten, and then another comes along, and so on, and so on. I see pain behind the forced smiles on the faces of their children especially as they mature, and are burden with more chores (jurisdictions). This is not the will of GOD.

your so worried about this country's resources.... exactly how much of the worlds oxygen have u wasted complaining about such things as to the way other people live? They do with their lives as everyone else on this planet does.... They live it the way they feel!!!

Gail, your disgusting!!! Really??? Hatching children?? I'm going to guess you don't have any kids or don't enjoy parenting. To me you just sound like a selfish snot!! OMG, they are taking so much away from you. Poor me me me. I'm willing to bet that the Duggars don't waste as many "limited resources" as you do. If anyone is selfish, that my dear would be you!! I have 3 beautiful children and I wouldn't mind having another because if your a true Mother you enjoy all that they do. I love to watch them grow, figure new things out or just sit and watch them play together. I guess that would make me a freak too.

The Duggans do not do this themselves. They have children and then use them to bring the others up. Evidently they have no social life of their own and are being robbed of one by MOTHER DUGGAN. She is obcessed with having children and should see a Psycharist about this obcession No thoughs of her health and has said if she should die giving birth her husband and children would bring up the children, Sick,. What if the husband dies too ? All of the small children would go to foster homes or orphanges. They saythey do not get welfare. I believe that. But they do get help from the church and donationns from people. That is nothing but depending on charity. Never saw two people work the church and donations like these two do. Disgusting and sick of them for doing this. So they are NOT doing this alone. They are milking the church and donations and calling it being independant Just two Not nice people to be doing this. What a snow job they have to make a liing. No example to any one. amen.

Don't get me wrong, I could never have that many children; but I would rather have the Dugger's reporduce these wonderful, well behaved, respectful, moral, and hard working children than all these other people, rich or poor, who have children with no morals and are a detrement to our society. Or people with spoiled brat kids who also are a detrement to society. The people who make negative comments about the Dugger's obviously have never seen the show. Plus I don't understand the hate talk???

What is your real complaint? I think it is that they are doing well and are happy with their large families. Perhaps if you work hard and love your family if you have one you could do as well as they.

I personally think we will at some point witness a tragety, that Mrs. Duggar will experience at some point for both herself and her unborn. The last one should have given them wisdom, once and for all. And of course they make money off the media! I knew a family of 17 once.. names all starting with the letter R. About 38 years ago.. and they didn't get the publication this family gets. I thought it was rediculous then and I think it is none other than irresponsible now. While I personallybelieve the more the merrier.. my number stops at about 4 or 5 !! Family is after all in most cases.. become your best friends. She pushed her body too far, a long time ago, and endangers the life of their unborn children. If they want to believe that as long as they can conceive..its meant to be.. then they aren't very intelligent about the fact that life is not perfect.. and God knows that more than anything.. he gives us wisdom.. to know when to stop. And doesn't want harm coming to any of his loved ones.. to which we are all. Its all about choices..And they... unfortunately haven't grasped the concept.. that because they concieve.. they should keep doing so!!!! I sort of think they both have a bit of Munchhousing's syndrome! They love the attention!!

Jimbo: You are very understanding and liberal-minded, for a democrat! The Duggar's have NEVER said they feel obligated to reproduce. Why is it you think that? Maybe it is because you can't see past your own ideas , which are radical also, and accept other ideas that are different from yours!!! Leave these people alone. They are doing nothing wrong. The Duggar's are living their lives. Guess what? They are NOT having children for crazy reasons, like your warped mind may conclude. They are just living without interference and if God gives them children, they are happy. They have just been lucky. These people would be HAPPY with any amount of children!!! I know you just don't understand the" lucky" part. Maybe someday you will.
