Thanksgiving is about three things -- football, family and food. (Not necessarily in that order.) Let's focus on the food.
There has been a lot of talk this year about childhood obesity, and how parents can help kids make healthier eating choices. But when the holidays come around, all of that kind of goes out the window.
What about you? Will you eat healthy this Thanksgiving? Or is it okay to take a holiday from low-cal dinners and chow down on a third helping of turkey and stuffing?

Alicia said...Okay, I know that we have a serious problem with childhood obesity and I realize it's good to eat healthy. I also think it's ridiculous to label Thanksgiving unhealthy. I would rather eat a well-balanced meal and take the dogs for a walk after than pick at something light and healthy. That's any day of the year. I don't know about your family, but mine makes everything from scratch, from the cranberry relish to the pies. There's less sugar and salt being consumed that way and it tastes better because it's all from generations-old recipes (and the people in my family are just awesome cooks). Yeah, Thanksgiving dinner might not be as good for you as a salad made of super foods, but it is a healthy, filling and balanced meal, especially if you divide your plate properly (half veggies, quarter carbs/starches, quarter meat).
