Spurred by the success of MTV's "16 and Pregnant" and "Teen Mom," the "teen mother" genre of television has exploded in recent months. Many of these childlike child-bearers receive an incredible amount of media attention, gracing magazine covers, getting chased by paparazzi and having their every move chronicled as if they were major movie stars.

The young moms do seem to have a lot of drama in their lives, although it's the type of drama most people would prefer to keep private. For example, "Teen Mom" star Amber Portwood's daughter was taken by state officials and recently returned. Amber was accused of domestic abuse and photos of her drinking have appeared online, according to PopEater.

It seems fair to wonder if this attention is a good thing for the mother and her child, especially when the mom is still so young herself.

What do you think? Are there too many teen moms on TV?
