Baby Josie Duggar Celebrates First Birthday
Filed under: Twins, Triplets, Multiples, Celeb News & Interviews
The littlest Duggar, Baby Josie, has just passed an important milestone -- one that even her parents thought she might not reach: Her first birthday.
When she was born via emergency cesarean-section on Dec. 10, 2009, weighing only 1 lb. 6 oz., the family, and especially Mama Michelle Duggar, feared for the preemie's life.
"We didn't know if she was going to live. She was so tiny and fragile, the size of Dad's hand," she tells ParentDish, referring to her husband, Jim Bob.
But a year later, Josie weighs 16 lbs., and she's doing well developmentally, though she continues with monitoring and receiving oxygen when she sleeps, the ubermom says.
"She's so strong," Duggar of TLC's "19 Kids and Counting" says. "She's saying da-da. She has an iron grip. She's a funky little fighter; she had to be to stay with us this long. I thank God; we are so grateful."
The family, steeped in the QuiverFull religion, is quick to acknowledge the power of prayer. Eight-year-old Justin gave his mom all the spiritual props: "Mama, you prayed for that," he told her yesterday.

Little Josie is bright-eyed and smiling, and though she might not have real pigtails yet, she's sporting a Bebe Doos headband with faux blonde hair.
"Our babies don't have hair for the first year-and-a-half," Duggar laughs. "We love these."
A balder Baby Josie initially went home from the hospital on April 6, but she was readmitted two days later. She finally went home for good in June. "We are so thankful," Duggar told ParentDish in August. "It could've been much more serious."
Now, to celebrate Josie's first birthday, Mom has cut out a giant number 1, which her younger kids are decorating in pink with polka dots. She plans to start a new tradition of taking a photograph every year with the three little Duggars who are the same age. Other daughter Jordyn turns 2 on Dec. 18 and her granddaughter Mackynzie was born on Oct. 8, 2009.
In addition to the fun photo, the Duggars will throw Josie a proper ice cream and confetti-poppers birthday party -- either tomorrow or Thursday -- when the rest of the family arrives back from a mission in Central America, specifically Honduras and El Salvador. Daddy Duggar took 10 of the older kids with him in an effort to teach the Duggar youth to help others.
"In the spirit of the season, Jesus gave the greatest gift and we need to reach into our own lives and be sacrificial for others as well," Mom Duggar says. "It's about giving others their basic needs and not expecting anything in return."
And speaking of not expecting anything, baby Josie has no idea that a riding toy is at the top of the list of birthday gifts from her family, along with new pajamas in the next size up, nine months. Josie is just growing out of her six-month size pjs, Duggar says.
As for her own 44th birthday back in September, Mama Duggar says she's still using the elliptical machine -- sometimes twice a day -- she received from the family, adding that she only has 10 more pounds to drop until she's at her ideal weight.
And then what? Will she get pregnant again?
"I would love more and we're hoping we're not finished," she says. "But at this point, I'm not pregnant."

They do more than most of us do towards making our planet secure. Has anyone of these critical commenters ever checked out their website. I learned alot about saving money by making my own household items. The family is supported by investments the family made. These kids are taught to love each other. That's one thing my mother forgot to teach me and my 3 siblings. The older ones help with the younger ones and when time comes, the roles will change. I know this is a lame comment, but I do enjoy their trips and seeing the love that flows through every one of them. So There!

Don't get me wrong I love my son but he is like having 100+ children in the home. My house is a mess I can't work nobody will watch him it's like being in jail! I am wondering what if any this last child of theirs will have any disabilities?

Renee said...Frankly, it's no one's business how many children they have. Barb is right, they had 17 kids and financially getting along just fine before anyone decided to get them involved in a TV show. If YOU don't want dozens of kids, then fine...thank God innocent children won't be raised by the likes of some of you. As for the Duggar children, at least we know of 19 young people who will be fine, upstanding citizens.

This woman does not love her children, if she did she would not be thinking about having another one after the problems the last one has. the uterus can only take so much abuse. kids need love, attention and nurturing not money or over exposure. shame on all you supporters of these shows.let them feed and clothe them without money from the show. ignorence is man's worst enemy. this couple is ignorant and selfish in my book.

Jennifer said...Thankfully the child is fine; however the amount of children is ridiculous! This is one woman who obviously can’t deal with a child growing up and constantly needs an infant. The husband is no help either for supporting this. The other children will never admit neglect of attention for the sake of their reputation. Now the TV show has only continued to support their obsession by condoning this behavior. Hopefully all the children will go to college (because of course the parents can afford this or via scholarship), have a stable job and support themselves when they grow up. We’ll see.
Anyone bringing a child into this world SHOULD prepare them for life properly so the child can somewhat endure this life. We’ll see in 10 years when the mother has another 8 children and the eldest children are on public assistance.
As for our Grandparents and parents (who are between the ages of 60-75), they grew up in a different era where hard work was not a second thought, unlike the generation today who thinks everything should be handed to them and pitches a fit if their parents don't get them the latest gamebox, etc. And those parents are morons because they're in my age group 40+ where some of us (obviously not me) think because we had it hard b/c we worked for it, that they would make it easier for their children. Good going raising spoiled brats.

Corinne said...You are so wrong Barb. Daddy Duggar lost his job and was getting his butt kicked to the curb with all his spawn. Some lady donated that HUGE house and EVERYTHING in it so they wouldn't be homeless. She also donated the van so they wouldn't be catching the bus. That's the first show and the last show I ever saw of them. I know there are worse families out there, but the parents are not raising their kids alone. They have WAY too much help. I bet his oldest son follows in his dads donated footsteps.

Agape said...How dare anyone condemn a woman the legal right to have as many children as she is able! You all act like she is bringing forth armies of humans into our world. Do you not know that daily the world population is being destroyed by famine, wars, 'natural disasters', disease and 'natural death'????? No, Michelle is not 'preserving the human race'... don't anyone dare say that. But in the United States of America, land of the 'free' (?) I thought we all were entitled to live our own lives without government interference and/or dirty looks from those who are prejudiced against us. Isn't THAT why our ancestors left England and other countries... for a better world... that of freedom and respect? Shame on you naysayers.

Hanna said...I think they should be allowed to have as many children as they want as long as they are able to support them financially and emotionally. Their children are very respectful and smart. Some parents have a difficult time just raising 2 kids and they are able to raise 19 wonderful children. Even thought i do agree with their lifestyle i think they should stop having anymore children. Michelle is getting older and it's not safe for her or the tiny babies. All the best to Josie and the whole family.

P.S. If any of the family wish to reply, I would love to hear from you. God Bless You All! And especially Baby Josie (love that name, by the way).

The books will out soon for the public to buy in order to support one of the children writing it for the income they need for themselves.
It’s not a case of preserving a human race or anything like that – it’s pure and simple, had it not been for the donation of the house, clothes, diapers, AND landing a TV show (getting paid for it) for this absurdity, they would be on public assistance which we pay for as tax payers.
The church helped out to a point but only could donate so much because the church needed the rest of the money for their legal defense fund!
It’s a whole different story if they were millionaires and can completely afford it. Then have 50 kids. That’s the point.

So the Duggers are a great example for all Christian they do not follow what everyone thinks, they follow God's instructions. And from what I can see God is very good to them! Thank you Lord! They have a wonderful loving, caring happy family with God as there foundation! I will pray for all of the people that have made very nasty comments as I no the Dugger family is also praying for you. God Bless you all.
