Twig Terrarium DIY kits let you create your own tiny universe. Credit: Twig Terrariums

This weekend, we discovered the existence of fantastical miniature worlds at our local flea market.

Enter Twig Terrariums, creators of moss terrariums and "other small worlds" set in antique, vintage and new glass containers, apothecary jars, science glass, kitchenware and other odd glass objects they come across.

Terrariums are pretty neat and very retro '70s, but what makes these little green worlds so cool is that each one contains a special scene built from tiny figurines that completes the landscape -- everything from "cows and horses to angry punk rockers and Central Park muggings," according to Twig Terrarium's owners, Michelle Inciarrano and Katy Maslow.

Although the assembled terrariums can only be purchased in stores and online for local NYC delivery or pick-up, Twig Terrarium DIY kits can be purchased online and shipped nationwide.

Available at Twig Terrariums for $25-$100.
