Girl, 9, Gets Hit by Truck, Saves Her Little Sister's Life
Filed under: In The News
Sisterly love took on a whole new meaning for Anaiah Rucker last month, when the 9-year-old girl saved her little sister's life by letting herself get hit by a pickup truck.
Anaiah and her 5-year-old sister, Camry, were crossing the street to catch the bus for school when the accident happened, ABC affiliate WSBTV in Madison, Ga., reports.
"I love her more than anything," Anaiah told the station from her Atlanta hospital room. "I pushed my sister out of the way so she wouldn't get hit."
Morning Express reports Anaiah nearly died from her injuries, which included two broken legs -- the left leg was amputated, a broken neck and spleen damage. She also lost a kidney.
Anaiah tells WSBTV it was raining that day, that she looked both ways and thought they were clear to enter the street.
"I saw the truck and I was like, 'No!' " Andrea Taylor, the girls' mother who was watching from her porch, tells WSBTV. "I seen my daughter kinda snatch my 5-year-old back, and if it wasn't for that, my 5-year-old would have ... I don't think she would have made it."
The truck driver was not charged in the incident, according to the network.
WSBTV reports Anaiah is scheduled to be released today, and police cars and fire trucks from Madison will provide an escort home where it will be Anaiah Rucker Day.
Hailed as a hero, Anaiah tells WSBTV her motives were simple.
"I thought she was too young," she tells the network. "She's my sister. I love her."

Too bad no one taught you not to pass judgement without knowing the full story. Cars move fast and sometimes they can turn a corner without being seen or be moving a little faster than you first thought, sometimes something can block your veiw and you miss it. Truth is, you called this girl a liar when you did not know for sure that was the casae. This is a brave little girl who was willing to sacrifice her life for her younger sister. What have you ever sacrifaced for anyone?

There is not enought information to classify Keith as a racist. Keith may be black. Remember the story where the young woman threw acid on her face, and blamed someone else. When her story was posted, there were so many people telling others that they were wrong to notice gaps in her story. People were called evil, and thoughtless for their opinions. Well, It turned out all of those negative people were right. Maybe I was wrong to blame the Mother, but after reading the story, and the facts given; it was a valid conclusion.

marlsmom said...To BJHYUTR, people are reading this because of the amazing thing this little girl did for her sister. The Mother is not to blame, it could happen anywhere..a parking lot, even with the mother crossing the street the street with them. Her Mom has taught her well to be loving and caring...not nearly enough of that in this world. Your love life has nothing to do with this post and it was rude to even include it in here...you are obviously one of those self centered people who would think of yourself first. The little sister would have died if it had been YOU with her.

RG said...I feel so horrible for this little girl. Words can't even begin to express it. WHY WAS THIS TRUCK DRIVER NOT TICKETED and worse??!! I am outraged!! I am a school bus driver & ALL vehicles including ambulances, fire trucks, & police cars are to stop for our stop signs & flashing red lights. You would be horrified to know how many people ignore this law and speed right through. Just today I had 2 cars run my flashing red lights at the same time; thank God I had enough time to warn the boy that was about to cross the street because he would've been dead. It truly disgusts me how ignorant people are and that they're in such a hurry that they have to put a child's life in danger. What's even worse is that it's so hard to get these people penalized for this. The law needs harsher punishments for those who run a school bus' red flashing lights. Enough is enough!

Bea said...RG calm down! The bus wasn't even there. The girls were crossing the street to go wait at the bus stop for the bus. It hadn't even arrived yet. Geeeeez! Overeact much?
Pay attention.

marlsmom said...Bea, RG has a very valid point which people need to pay attention to. It's true, I see it all the time, people have no regards for the buses and it's scarey. Our schools have a 15mph limit past them at the times when the children are going to or leaving school...some people FLY through these zones. Who do they think they are??? If the girls were crossing to a bus stop I'm willing to bet the area is marked as such and drivers need to be alert and slow down.

lita said...I agree, Rich. A better writer would have said why the driver was not charged--or at least stated that the reason for not charging the driver was not available.
3-16-2011 @ 2:12PM
divacrosse said...Not to my knowledge Rich but I know that the stop sign pops out once the bus stops to pick up children and ALL vehicles are to stop!

KAHUNASAYS said...The school buses here in GA do have lights and signs. This article does not say the school bus was there, just that they were crossing the road to catch the school bus. I would assume that since the driver was not charged, that the bus was not there with the flashing lights.

meli said...yes Ga's buses have lights. But there are places where the buses stop at one place for children (mostly in a city) instead of stopping at every house.
