Girl, 9, Gets Hit by Truck, Saves Her Little Sister's Life
Filed under: In The News
Sisterly love took on a whole new meaning for Anaiah Rucker last month, when the 9-year-old girl saved her little sister's life by letting herself get hit by a pickup truck.
Anaiah and her 5-year-old sister, Camry, were crossing the street to catch the bus for school when the accident happened, ABC affiliate WSBTV in Madison, Ga., reports.
"I love her more than anything," Anaiah told the station from her Atlanta hospital room. "I pushed my sister out of the way so she wouldn't get hit."
Morning Express reports Anaiah nearly died from her injuries, which included two broken legs -- the left leg was amputated, a broken neck and spleen damage. She also lost a kidney.
Anaiah tells WSBTV it was raining that day, that she looked both ways and thought they were clear to enter the street.
"I saw the truck and I was like, 'No!' " Andrea Taylor, the girls' mother who was watching from her porch, tells WSBTV. "I seen my daughter kinda snatch my 5-year-old back, and if it wasn't for that, my 5-year-old would have ... I don't think she would have made it."
The truck driver was not charged in the incident, according to the network.
WSBTV reports Anaiah is scheduled to be released today, and police cars and fire trucks from Madison will provide an escort home where it will be Anaiah Rucker Day.
Hailed as a hero, Anaiah tells WSBTV her motives were simple.
"I thought she was too young," she tells the network. "She's my sister. I love her."

Some things are just accidents, Period. There need be no 'blame' assigned to anyone. It's like the bumper sticker that reads'S**t happens.' And ain't it the truth?
Oh, and I am also not saying that there are not lazy parents. There are. But in this case, we haven't been given enough facts to know one way or the other.

Not inside ignoring them by going back to bed or on the computer, or watching TV, or talking on her cell phone. SHE WAS BEING A GREAT MOM!!!

KarleeSue said...Saying "she was meant to be there" is a twisted way of blaming God. God didn't want anything to happen to those two lovely children. Satan saw an opportunity to cause pain, and he took it. We are in a war between good and evil in which people are both the weapons and the victims. Satan wants to hurt God as badly as he can as often as he can, and the only way he can do it is through people. Unfortunately these two little girls were his choice. However, I do believe God can bring something marvelous out of tragedy.

Marisol said...Karlee, how did you get blaming God out of Frank's comment? He merely said that Aniah was meant to be there to save her sister and I agree with him, because God does put people in a place for a reason. Satan's job is to rob, steal, kill, mane and divide. He's been running rampant and God was right there to stop him. God bless those little girls and their mother.

Marisol said...Pat, only a hateful person would feel that way and I don't see Anaiah as having a hateful bone in her body. We are going to pray that she never meet anyone that thinks the way you do.

Confused said...this to PAT...sheesh....you know...when I was a 9 year old...I would have given up a lot more than a LEG to save my kid sister. I wouldn't hate her or resent her....it would have been MY CHOICE to push her aside....just like it was Anaiah's fast thinking...CHOICE....she said...if you read the article she knew what she was doing. Bless BOTH those girls and their family.

John said...Congratulations Aniah ! This was a great piece of news to see and read about. I'm sorry to hear about the injuries you received but it was great to hear you survived and that your actions saved your young sister. It means God has a plan for both of you and now all you have to do is keep your mind and eyes open so you discover what it is. I'm sure he will tell you when the time is right.
