Girl, 9, Gets Hit by Truck, Saves Her Little Sister's Life
Filed under: In The News
Sisterly love took on a whole new meaning for Anaiah Rucker last month, when the 9-year-old girl saved her little sister's life by letting herself get hit by a pickup truck.
Anaiah and her 5-year-old sister, Camry, were crossing the street to catch the bus for school when the accident happened, ABC affiliate WSBTV in Madison, Ga., reports.
"I love her more than anything," Anaiah told the station from her Atlanta hospital room. "I pushed my sister out of the way so she wouldn't get hit."
Morning Express reports Anaiah nearly died from her injuries, which included two broken legs -- the left leg was amputated, a broken neck and spleen damage. She also lost a kidney.
Anaiah tells WSBTV it was raining that day, that she looked both ways and thought they were clear to enter the street.
"I saw the truck and I was like, 'No!' " Andrea Taylor, the girls' mother who was watching from her porch, tells WSBTV. "I seen my daughter kinda snatch my 5-year-old back, and if it wasn't for that, my 5-year-old would have ... I don't think she would have made it."
The truck driver was not charged in the incident, according to the network.
WSBTV reports Anaiah is scheduled to be released today, and police cars and fire trucks from Madison will provide an escort home where it will be Anaiah Rucker Day.
Hailed as a hero, Anaiah tells WSBTV her motives were simple.
"I thought she was too young," she tells the network. "She's my sister. I love her."

Also, I feel so horrible for what happened to the 9 year old girl... She is definately going to have some challenges as she grows up missing a leg, but with time, I really hope that she learns to cope with the missing leg and make a great use of the life that God saved for her.

She is just to nonchalant for me, I would have been crying all the time blaming myself if that were my kid. In this day and age people are double crazy than when I grew up. You have to be there.

I have to agree with some of the comments. Mom needed to make herself available to walk her daughters across the street to the waiting school bus. Too much responsibility is put on older siblings, when the older siblings are still at a young age.
Why can't we have more parenting classes?

Your rewards will be many, if not on this earth, the highest honors await you in heaven. You will forever be in the hearts, minds and prayers of the many lives you have touched by your generous act of love.

It doesn't take a brain surgeon to know that there may be children running around in the morning and afternoon going to school and coming from school. Drivers need to watch more carefully during those times. Whether a bus is stopped or not, there are children around and you need to be more careful.

I agree, however, that the problem is that some parents
just werent meant to be parents.
Since so many people compare humans to animals, how many times have you seen ducks sitting on a porch while there duckings are crossing the road? Um Never!

David said...So many things to write about. First, what a wonderful thing for the girl to do. That's what love means. Caring for another more then yourself. I hope she is well taken care of.
Next, to the people who wrote tht it was god's will and the one who said Satan put them there..get a grip. Neither of those things are true and it's ridiculous to think so.
Lastly, to the insensitive annoying advertisers who try disguising their hawking their products by adding a line or two from the statement..you're pathetic. You obviously have no sense of decency seeing as getting customers to buy your products is so important to you that you'll selfishly promote it anywhere.
Oh and one more..it was not the mom's fault.
