Breast Milk Baby Doll Teaches Kids to Breast-Feed
Filed under: In The News, Weird But True, Toys
Are you one of these people who find yourself ever-so creeped out by the sight of a woman breast-feeding her baby in public?
Oh, you ain't see nothing yet.
Picture a 7-year-old girl -- or boy, for that matter -- strapping on little flowered falsies so a baby doll can suckle the imaginary breasts -- complete with slurping and gurgling sounds.
A lot of adults could do without that particular image.
However, the folks at Berjuan Toys in Spain think their new Breast Milk Baby is a dandy way to teach children how to breast-feed an infant. After all, you don't want to start second grade without mastering that skill.
"The Breast Milk Baby will revolutionize our nation's attitudes to good infant health, while letting little girls share in the wonder and magic of motherhood," company executives write on their website. "The Breast Milk Baby lets young girls express their love and affection in the most natural way possible, just like Mommy!"
For $99, kids get a very hungry doll and an apron-like top with painted flowers in lieu of nipples.
Not everyone likes this concept.
"Only a morally corrupt so-called parent would condone/justify this doll being sold and marketed for young girls who have yet to reach puberty and menstruation age," posts one reader in response to a story in the New York Daily News.
But one father tells "Good Morning America" he thinks the doll is a good idea.
"We've got another baby due in June, and I think it's going to be a really neat way for our daughter Grace to identify and connect with Mom," J.C. Renners tells the news program. "It's an interesting concept."
Dennis Lewis, the U.S. spokesman for Berjuan Toys, tells the San Francisco Chronicle some people have even filed complaints on behalf of God. But he's not convinced God is all that miffed.
"About 20 percent of the messages have been hateful and mean," he tells the Chronicle. "We're being called perverts and pedophiles for promoting feeding our babies the way God intended? Churches all over the world are filled with images of Mary nursing baby Jesus, and yet we can't imagine letting our daughters learn how important breast-feeding is for our society?"
America clearly has a problem with breasts, he adds.
"As Americans we've been duped into believing there's something shameful and taboo about breast-feeding, but the truth is that this idea was created to sell more baby formula," he tells the Chronicle. "The Breast Milk Baby is a serious product, created by a small family-owned Christian toy manufacturer who strongly believes in the benefits of feeding babies the natural God-given way. Our dolls are beautiful and well made, and we're proud of them."
"We stand by our statement: Little girls need to learn to breast-feed."

David S. said...Not at all offended by an adult woman breasfeeding in public, as long as she is somewhat discreet. This doll, on the other hand, is creepy. This is right up there with those dolls that pee and poop themselves....completely pointless, and yeah, also creepy.

That aside, why? Any baby doll will suffice & children would naturally gravitate to immitating. So would I ever buy this for my kid? No.

Darlene said...Unbelievable, the way people are reacting to this doll! I"m shocked at so many people putting a sexual lable on breastfeeding a baby! Hello people! It"s normal and the most natural way to feed a baby. I see nothing wrong with a little girl or boy knowing that a women has milk in her breast to feed her baby. Too much adulthood, comparing breastfeeding a baby doll to the mommy having sex with daddy, saying you know how a bishop, priest or cardinal will use this doll in a sexual manner! These attitudes are a sick, perverted way of looking at a beautiful, normal, natural way to feed ones baby! People get your minds out of the gutter! Shame on you! There would no controversy if a new bottle feeding doll came on the market!

First of all, when mommy explains the falsies are pretend boobies, but babies nurse at real boobies, that will be the end of those and I'm not about to take my daughter around town with her shirt raised up and a baby pretend sucking at her nipple. And my son? The day I catch my 2nd Grade son wearing flowerdy falsies, he's going straight into therapy and then military school.

Jane said...My daughter was breast fed and I told her all about women feeding their babies with their breasts when she was young. When she was about 6, she saw little kids laughing at a magazine where the mother was breastfeeding the baby and my daughter looked at me and said "why are those kids laughing at the mommy feeding her baby? What's so funny?". Maybe more kids need to know about breastfeeding so they won't act like goons later on about a woman's breasts.

These manufacturers are out to make a buck and they don't care about anyone else. What is happening to this nation? There's no morals or scruples anymore.

nauseating. Not all women have children or
even want to have them.
Why don't we make a male doll that teaches
little boys how to masterbate, or how to
impregnant a girl? That's mother nature,
too.

Not all women want the same things and we don't think with a collective brain. Parenthood is not for everyone, but that doll is making that very assumption. Little boys have choices and when they become men, they have even more choices. From birth, girls are pounded on to be a certain way, act a certain way, think a certain way, look a certain way and the list goes on and on. To me, this is another example of brainwashing girls into thinking that there's only one path for them and it always leads to motherhood.
Enough already...being a parent....mother, is a beautiful thing if it is what a woman chooses. If she doesn't, then so be it. But a doll that breast-feeds....one more way to control females and I'm sick of it.

She throw it in with the rest of her toys, and started to imitate nursing. I thought it was so cute and decided to take a picture of it. I want my kids to be comfortable with the idea that breast should bthe the first choice for supplying life to a infant/toddler. To many girls and boys don,t see this and think that it is abnormal to do this and decide to deny their child the best form of food supply they cann ever get. I will buy the doll.

canamera said...I am appalled by the people who are appalled! It is so confusing to me how much ignorance is out there regarding something so natural. How can anyone equate feeding a baby doll with becoming sexualized to the point of getting pregnant as a teen? One thing has nothing to do with the other. I never wanted my children to feed their baby dolls with bottles because I didn't want them to get the idea that that is the natural way to feed a child. I wish we had had this doll available to them. When you grow up with it, it is totally normal. Unfortunately, due to the greed of a lot of formula companies and their hefty marketing budgets, people have come to believe that artificial milk is an acceptable substitute for breastmilk, WHICH IT IS NOT. How many thousands of babies died in Africa due to Nestle's promotion of formula over breastmilk. That is what caused the whole boycott of Nestle products. Please, everyone! If you are going to comment on this issue, educate yourselves first. The ignorance displayed in some of these posts is frightening for people in an educated society.
