When the good folks of San Francisco hit the polls this fall, they'll be asked to vote on a new mayor, the pension system and penises.
The San Francisco Chronicle reports a circumcision ban has made the November ballot -- ahem -- cut, after Department of Elections officials officially certified that a group called "intactivists" managed to round up 7,743 signatures (they needed 7,168) to take the measure to a vote.
The ban would make circumcision on any person younger than 18 a misdemeanor. And, no, your religion would not get you out of it, the newspaper reports. Wanna a little snip, snip anyway? The Chronicle says you would face a $1,000 fine and could spend up to a year in the pokey.
The intactivists and their ilk say circumcision is cruel, the newspaper reports, like cutting off part of an infant's face, while those against it say a ban would be unconstitutional.

clint said...yeah, kind of like a group of (almost all) men telling women what they can and cannot do with their bodies. All people, men and women, should be able to make choices about their own bodies themselves.

Linda said...On the wiping butts issue...we will have to start putting used toilet paper in a special waste can cause the EPA will say we are polluting the sewage plants. Did you know they outlawed flushable cat liter because the EPA said it pollutes the ocean? Next they will have scuba divers down there with little bags trying to catch fish poop. Morons run this World, what happen to intelligent people? They sure arent in government

Cali should make it a crime and let the intact infant made his own informed decision concerning his own body when he chooses. Hospitals do sell the foreskins for profit, you know.

It's scientifically proven that children under 4 years old aren't able to remember much of anything, but the older they get the more they retain. a 2 year old being drilled on at the dentist will at 28 years old still be terrified of them. But a new born circumcised, will not have that problem. I think the real cruelty is telling an 18 year old man "Yeah your parents were forced to wait until now, instead of doing it when you were a baby, good luck every erection you get will drop you like a rock for the next 6 weeks...maybe longer."

Little old men that wind up having to have it removed after it gets stuck don't heal very fast at all and it is more painful at that time. And, FYI: I can't vouch for other hospitals, but I assure you that the hospital I work at does NOT sell the skin! I don't know WHERE you got that piece of misinformation!

And people aren't pissed because they can't live there - they're pissed because it's still there. You must fit in there just fine. You're so obnoxious - are you sure you're not Nancy Pelosi?
