Circumcision Ban Makes San Francisco's November Ballot Cut

When the good folks of San Francisco hit the polls this fall, they'll be asked to vote on a new mayor, the pension system and penises.
The San Francisco Chronicle reports a circumcision ban has made the November ballot -- ahem -- cut, after Department of Elections officials officially certified that a group called "intactivists" managed to round up 7,743 signatures (they needed 7,168) to take the measure to a vote.
The ban would make circumcision on any person younger than 18 a misdemeanor. And, no, your religion would not get you out of it, the newspaper reports. Wanna a little snip, snip anyway? The Chronicle says you would face a $1,000 fine and could spend up to a year in the pokey.
The intactivists and their ilk say circumcision is cruel, the newspaper reports, like cutting off part of an infant's face, while those against it say a ban would be unconstitutional.

JLAD said...Circumcision is an ancient, brutal practice that has no place in a civilized society. I don't care about anyone's religious or cultural beliefs. Parents don't have the right to mutilate their son's genitalia. It needs to be banned nationally, like female circumcision was in 1996.

I do not care what they do in California as long as the rest of us in The United States do not have to bail them out because of their idiotic behavior. Just who do these people think they are? Looking at Pelosi and Waxman, I can only guess. I sincerely think that all of these years of drug use may be a cause. They are out of touch with reality. They want to ban "Happy Meals" "Ronald McDonald", Trans fat, Peanuts, sugar, gluten, OIL. I live in Teaxas Thank GOD, and most of the sane people in California are moving here with their businesses. Our standard of living is so much higher here and the crime is much lower. We do not have a state income tax and all of the other taxes are lower. Best of all, we don't have Pelosi.

james russell said...There are quiet a few religions in the world that have ceremonies to have circumcisions most notably the Hebrew religion. The older a boy gets the more likely they can damage the foreskin. Men have health problems by tearing the foreskin and they generally opt out on an operation later in life.

I dated someone once who was a CEO of a hospital (even) who was not and what happens is daily dead skin accumulates under there like a peuuuuueey wet lint scum and it smells TERRIBLE! I had it on my hands and couldn't scrub, even with rubbing alcohol and other stuff for days. I wonder how if unnatural, that the sensitivity to exposure is 'sensitive' and all but guys must get used to it from the start (as a baby w/o knowing it). Thing is I also have someone in my life who is not and he is always cleaning yet the littlest of anything can 'go sour' .

Why not try and find ways to create jobs or create citizens groups to clean up blighted neighborhoods. I suppose the next thing they'll try to make a law against dressing boys in boys clothling and girls in girls clothling.

But a minor procedure done for religious and sanitary purposes on a newborn child must be banned because the baby isn't old enough to choose......
