Researchers Say Caffeine May Cause Infertility

MSNBC reports researchers have discovered caffeine reduces activity of the muscles in the fallopian tubes, which carry a woman's eggs from her ovaries to her womb.
The result? No babies.
"Caffeine inhibits the contractions of the muscles in the fallopian tube, so the egg stops getting transported," lead researcher Sean Ward of the University of Nevada School of Medicine tells MSNBC.
If the eggs aren't delivered to the womb, a woman will either have an unsuccessful pregnancy or be at risk for an ectopic pregnancy (when the embryo gets stuck and develops in the woman's fallopian tube), he adds.
MSNBC reports researchers studied the effect of caffeine on the fallopian tubes of mice, who have reproductive systems similar to humans. (That explains why Mickey and Minnie Mouse have been together for 83 years but don't have any children.)
Ward tells MSNBC the mice got the amount of caffeine equivalent to a couple of cups of coffee. Still, much more research is needed to determine how much caffeine is necessary to impair fertility in humans, he adds.
Caffeine affects everybody in different ways, and therefore may affect people's fertility differently, Ward tells the network.
"It depends on the person -- how long caffeine affects you, and then the downstream effects as well," he says.

I say, stick to your coffee and chocolate!

Angiebaby said...Why can't we Americans just drink coffee in peace like the rest of the free world? Drinking coffee - the ritual, the tradition, the enjoyment, the social aspect - is embraced by most of the world. And the coffee in other contries is usually stronger than ours. (Except for England, maybe.) But the people and governments in those countries don't try to make java drinkers feel guilty, or scare the living sh*t out of them for drinking coffee, or produce contrary "research" results which on week say coffee is good for us, and the next, it prevents pregnancy and causes insanity.
Here's the only right advice we need: 1. If you want to drink coffee, drink coffee. If you don't want to drink coffee, then don't. But drinking coffee with a yoke of guilt and fear around your neck will cause alot worse than anything these stupid studies will ever show. 2. All things in moderation. If you have to work until 4 am to finish a deadline, then keep the pot full and hot. If you need to get some sleep before a 7 am meeting, don't drink coffee before bed. 3. Use some common sense and always think for yourself, like, if your baby is born with the biggest cowlick on God's green earth, it's not because you drank coffee while you were pregnant.

2. If this is true, put more coffee in the welfare food.

One article will say that coffee is good for you while the next will say that it's bad for you. The bottom line here is this. There cannot be one person left on the planet that actually gives a crap one way or another and we all know it. So why even waste our time? Why am I even writing this comme

Lynne said...Well, they just keep coming up with more s**t. I'll agree caffine racing through the blood supply probably isn't the most healthful thing for a developing embryo but to say it makes you infertile is stupid.
Give a researcher a rat and he can prove anything.
Just like smoking and I'm not a smoker.
You know how the second hand smoke crap evolved into a rat getting lung cancer? They put it in a cage (no escape, right?) and puffed smoke in it's face constantly. Then they deduced second hand smoke brought about illness.
OMG! Insanity with a college degree.
